Leo_7: I dont know how much this info is valid as it doesnt make sence.even if they r faked something ( but international watchers all confirmed that election held democratcally) they r not that stupid to annonce it day before to confirm their unclean actions.May be that info spread by opposition on purpose.i have no idea.and its 85%.
It was confirmed as released via smartphone from his campaign leader. I am just telling you whats been in international media. When they realised they released it a day earlier they pulled it back. Just so you know.
Agree.the problem is people like him and voted for him.cos country is developing good .and he knows how to keep russia and west in distance and in a balanced relationship.
To be frank: firstly I'm not interested in football at all. I never had. Secondly I was not watching a minute of BG television recently as I was concentrating on my French, furthermore I find international news on BBC, Aljazeera, DW, TV5Monde, etc. more interesting.

tomcatwarne: The Russians weren't so hot at that time, look at the bloody nose they got in the winter wars with Finland. And the German high command were going down with the madness of their own leadership.

MADDOG69: How did that end for Finland in the end?
The war was between Russia and Finland. Russia wanted to annex Finland, so they launched an attack on Finland, but due to heavy snow, poor planning, low morale, high dedication by Finnish soldiers, and the recent coup by Stalin, they suffered heavy casualties while the Finns suffered relatively small amounts.
Despite the initial failure, the Russians launched a new attack and the Finns asked for peace. Although they ceded a small amount of land to Russia, they maintained their independence.
There were no real "winners." Russia failed in their aim to annex Finland, and they lost over 120,000 soldiers, 3,500 tanks, and 261-515 aircraft. The Finns lost about 25,000 troops, 20-30 tanks, and 62 aircraft (The Finnish military did not have large amounts of tanks and aircraft at their disposal at the beginning of the war.) Their international reputation also suffered severely due to the fact that the Finnish military only consisted of about 350,00 troops, compared to Russia's force of nearly 800,000.
Btw.Guys theres a great film just relazed yesterday in Russia. Its a 3 d.called Stalingrad.Looking forward to see it.must be translated into English too.

You forget to mention losing Petsamo (including Finland's only access to the Artic Seas and Ice free port, including the huge Nickel reserves), Eastern Karelia and Ladoga. And about 10% of Finland's population left (were refugees after the annexation of these 3 areas..) most of which emigrated to the US and elsewhere, if I'm not mistaken. And then there was the huge financial reparations that were paid.

Well Finland nicked Petsamo from the Ruskies in the first place read a bit more.
The Province of Petsamo (Finnish: Petsamon lääni, Swedish: Petsamo län) was a province of Finland from 1921 to 1922. It was established in 1921 when Bolshevist Russia ceded the area of Pechenga to Finland. In 1922, it was merged with the province of Oulu. In 1938, Lapland was separated from the province of Oulu and Petsamo also became part of the new province. The whole of the former province was then ceded to the Soviet Union in 1944.
Maus19: The point is not what armour they had and when. The point is their high reliance on horses. Contrary to popular belief based on Wochenschau images gladly copied for postwar documentaries, troop movements often had more in common with Napoleonic wars than the image we have of them thundering across Europe in Panzer mark whatever. Even with all the autobahn and rail infrastructure it is the last army that will have marched across Europe.
That wasn't the point. The point of the thread is which country had the most powerful military forces before WWII wasn't it?
Leo_7: i wouldnt underestimate Russia that much.their power was manpower with high spirit and vodka.look at the history.they hardly lost any war in centuries.
First Russia was fed by American military armament and supplies and every day Stalin was screaming for more. The Russian soldiers high spirit came from the commissars, any Russian soldier running backward instead of forward were shot on the spot. Those Russians soldiers had no other choice, to be killed by the Germans or to be killed by their own officers and politik commissars, they were no supermen. Remember WW2 history in Russia was written in full lies. Not untill the collapsed, russians learned the truth about Stalin's lies.
Torless: The T34 didnt outclass the panzers, it was the sheer number they produced that did. Without the number of russians who fought, and died the war would have gone the other way.
but, but, you're a girl! ps, after getting over my initial shock, the T34 outclassed the MkIII and MkIV panzers and the Panther was developed in response (just from memory)
I clicked om Germany, but on reflection, France had the largest army, better tanks, just had no idea how best to use them, Russia was an unknown force before the war, no one knew about the T-34 tanks,

Conrad73: it was the Russian Winter, along with the massed Russian Armies that eventually proved too much for the Wehrmacht! Talked to some Germans back in the Fifties who made it back! Apparently it was anything but pretty!
So true, they werent prepared for the winter..they thought it would be ove by then.

LOl sure am...and I read a lot about it.....From memory it was the last tank that was better, however they produced so many of one type that it was the sheer numbers that did it, of course the russian people suffered greatly...Kill or be killed.
