tomcatwarne: National characteristics are determined by a number of factors. The nurture or nature argument has been going on for a hundred years. I agree with you it is a lot nurture, but this does not stop this characteristic being ingrained into a persons psyche.
I can't speak for the cat race, but I think if you hissed at them all the time they might scratch your eyes out. Apart from that I agree with you.
I am glad you see the point and partly agree. Ask yourself a question: how is it ingrained into a person's psyche? even environment alone cannot give a desired result?

Yes, as you can see I live in Finland at the moment although I am British.
There are some very distinct characteristics in the Finnish charcter which are very different from the British or American. This is partly due to their culture and partly due to their global positioning. I think we agree on most things and I'm sure travelling across America you would find cultural differences even from state to state

...not only are there differences from state to state as you surmise but also differences from town to town.
tiredofwebsites: I am not talking about traits or customs. Demeanor is another matter. How you behave with others has more to do with how you are brought up. If you take a cat(with no nationality) and slap it and hiss at it every time you see it from birth onward, it will be conditioned to act a certain way, hissing at you even though it doesn't know you. But not all cats will hiss at you. In the same way, some humans have been conditioned by environment and other factors to reject people they just met, but fortunately not all people of any given nationality are that way. We have a saying in English:"I cannot criticize my brother till I have walked in his mocasins." For you to claim that a particular nationality is inherently bad you would have to prove everyone is bad. It would easier to spit in the wind than to prove such a mistaken claim.
I agree, your upbringing pretty much reflects how you treat other people.
