MadBushpig: ... An interesting quote, is it still relevant in todays society ...
It's always relevant, but the stakes of war are so high these days that any real war would mean the end of our civilisation. This does not mean that war won't happen, it just means that you store up all minor conflicts and grievances in a powderkeg of a society until they all explode in an apocalyptic disaster.
MadBushpig: ... An interesting quote, is it still relevant in todays society ...
It was never relevant. It's always been a lie.
If you want peace, seek peace. Make friends.
The countries who spend all their time preparing for war wind up fighting one war after another. They go all over the world invading poor countries and stealing their resources.
Then they babble about how free and peace-loving they are.
organicfeelin: Yes but not like Americans lieing about chemical weapons, invading a country, attacking the man who holds AK-47 with M1A1.
That s not war. That s more like a child who plays video game and proud that he won.
The US likes beating up on poor countries like Korea, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Grenada, Panama, Libya, Syria, Nicaragua, Iraq, Venezuela, Chile, Yugoslavia, The Phillipines, Laos, Cambodia, etc.
Most of the time they avoid attacking countries that are actually capable of fighting back.

Conrad73: Yep,Assad's Chemical Weapons===========Saddam Hussein's Chemical Weapons!
Seems we finally found out what was on those Trailers hightailing it toward the Syrian Border on the Eve of the 2nd Gulfwar!
No we didn't. There was none. We did find out that certain exiled members with vested interests from Iraq were lobbying The Hill for years were mostly mad fairy tale stories. And it was all shown to be crap. There was no proper equipment even left, just rusty stuff that hadn't been used since the Iran-Iraq war. We also know that ears closer to the ground, the Saudi Intelligence force had concluded that there was no chemical weapons program to speak of.

Sir,most of the decent Iraqis i spoke to said ,they were better off in Saddam s regime.
Saddam used to take soldiers from each house if they can and give em food enough for a year.
I remember them when i was a kid.they were coming to Turkey with their crowded familys stucked in a Chevrolet station wagon while we ran out of gasoline few meters away from the gas station and pushing our car.
The quote is straight from the egotistic mind and born out of fear, and all conflicts have their roots in fear. But the ego loves to strengthen our fear and keep us under it's ever demanding control. The wise may say, "surrender to win."

That's imperialism you're describing which is comparatively peaceful. Under real warlike circumstances there isn't one side that has obvious supremacy over the others, that's what makes it real war.
Besmirch Pax Americana and all the luxury and personal advantage this has granted to you as you will, but I wouldn't entertain any illusions of things being more peaceful when it's over.

You mentioned 1st Gulf War. It was the 2nd Gulf war that the scandal about chemical weapons, or lack thereof came about. We know Saddam had chemical weapons around the time of the 1st Gulf War as he had used them on your friends - The Kurds. And we most certainly knew he had them earlier because he used them liberally during the previous war with Iran.

The never felt a threat from us.
While watching/listening to the reports from the embedded news media I remember it being reported that some Iraqi people saying that they were better off during Saddam s regime.
ye, unfortunately, war is the only way, to bring down overpopulation. and restructure things and society. Im not looking forward to this. Ok, down here, was reading in history how 60 000 Boers savaged 450 000 British troops when they conquered down here, but this time they will be fighting the US marines maybe, Russia, China, and the whole African continent. One collosal empire, with technology and Attack helicopters. I dont want to see this. think I must head for Wales or something tell all these wars are over.
Bet you any thing you like Iraq still has some as they won't have given Assad all of them ,Saddam hated Assad's guts . If Saddam buried planes, tucking a few drums of gas products under ground would be no problem .

i am sure jac will invite you for tea and biscuits
they had ole Hans blick looking for the weapons long before 2nd war besides Saddam never planned on taking a long jump with a short length of hemp around his neck .He had already "won" one war against the US ,winning another would have been in his plans .
... To all of you who have posted, wow, what a cerebral response from all, I'm impressed. I doubt there will be consensus but both sides of the arguement have been well represented, food for thought, is there a way that 'both' could be right in their own way ...

Hans blick? A dozen or so inspectors in 4x4s vs 200,000+ on the ground troops?
