mzetoile: You can't can't lay all the blame on the parent. If you had a problem with it, why didn't you speak up? You could have spoken to the parent or flight attendant.
i can blame whomever i wish...
as for speaking up...i spoke with the parent a couples times and he acknowledged the behavior was inappropriate, and he was unable to control his child. letting a five or six year old child run the show is poor parenting. it was a full flight, wasn't any open seats to move anyone.

It's good you did speak up. It hadn't appeared that way from your earlier post. Sure you can blame whoever you wish from your perspective..but there's more than one way to look at it I know you can only say so much as well. Perhaps the parent should have asked the flight attendant to tell the kid to stop kicking people's seats. And some kids aren't controllable. Lucky if yours were
There was a lady from lets say European also and she was talking and talking the whole 2:25 hours flight to a guy. The guy said maybe 5 words at the most to her like: yea.
I wanted to hit that lady with a pillow at least but I didn't.

yah... that could get annoying... usually i would just put on the headphones and turn up the volume.
i want to be clear here though..i have no problems with kids flying. i have a problem with poor behavior that effects all those around them. if an adult was having tantrums on the floor, playing loud games without using earbuds, kicking seats, and being a nuisance..there would probably be consequences.

mzetoiole i'm pretty open minded and worked with kids for years. (both in my capacities of teacher and therapist) so i am aware that some kids are difficult to control. and i'd be the first person to support a parent having a difficult time. however in this particular case, i got to watch for over six hours the interaction between this father and son and in my opinion, the problem was a result of poor parenting. having said that...i also realize we are all doing our best in each and every moment.
i still think there should be some minimum behavior requirements for children on planes, and consequences for violating minimum requirements.
Fair enough Jono, I take your point and defer to your expertise. (my response was to what I saw as a quick judgement, and a stock answer, which implied to me that every child is cut from the same cooker cutter mould).

Yeah I guess so. I don't know what can be done about that.
Katiko: . My son flew first time when he was 6 months and he did perfectly fine just following this simple rules. He cried maybe 5min in all together during 2.5hours long flight. The sound of engine was actually soothing him very well :)
Katiko your advice was the best I have read - and I would just add, that as long as parents must fly with their little tikes, as long as I am not seated near them..... we are all happy flyers.
Now, when he is 15months he loves to interact with strangers. A stranger who would catch his attention could safe all other passengers from a scream and crying more than all the mummy or daddy can do. I saw it in trains, tramway, or busses already. It's the age when he needs to try out new things and those are usually forbidden, or to be engaged in some activity. And stranger and their new ideas are always more interesting. So it could happen it would be better to have you seated close if he would find you interesting or funny. You could save us all :)))
Children in the future will be put into a stasis chamber that has many safety sensors and the parents will take a natural sedative. Everyone else will sleep. The pilot will be a BBW Transgender 1st cousin to the Flight attendant that is also a mate. The plane will fly over all countries so as not to leave any one out from the experience. Organic bread with letters made of edible ink will simulate cell phones and anyone half conscious will practice texting. Planes will not use fuel as is not healthy and they will just glide around till someone wants off.
i work for airline, its true babies do cry during take off and landing which is good for them, its something with the pressure change during take off and landing inside the aircraft.

edison324: i have often wondered why young babies scream when a plane takes off and comes into land, the it occurred to me that young babies skulls are very thin and still developing hence the cabin pressure must cause them distress as some times it hurts my ears so what must it be like for a baby who can not tell what is wrong them,,so should they fly at an early age !!!
Its a fair point, my friend.
I just flew back from overseas and there was a baby on board, crying and screaming. It may have been for a variety of reasons but I felt at the time that its not conducive to someone so young that doesn't understand what's happening or what is happening to them (i.e. ears popping, etc). For older children, fine as long as they aren't unruly but for the really young ones, its food for thought, yes.....
No excuse for kids being noisy and disuptive in public places. Let them get rid of their energy levels in the back garden or the park before you take them to a restaurant or travelling. Kids should be taught how to behave in public from a young age. Too much mollycoddling and spoiling going on these days.

I personally don't see why not, my 4 year old has been flying since she was a month old and she loves to fly. She loves sitting and looking out the window until she gets sleepy and falls asleep.
