@lifeisadream I didn't care about cam as I've already a digital camera, about the same size, with a much higher resolution and zoom lens etc.
I'm very happy with my cheap Sony E1. It does more than I'll ever need. Else I would have gone with the Galaxy Note for the screen size and available apps.

I do have a couple of good cameras but when climbing you have to have the least weight on your back. A camera is a must but under freezing conditions, dangerous path and strong winds, using a camera is just out of question and a cell phone comes handy yet any one can do the job and behind the tool there is the master.
Are Apple (iOS) products more expensive than Google (Andoride) yes they are.
Apple (iOS) and Google (Andoride) are both good, it is just a matter of taste which one you choose and I would not disqualify people that uses either or both.

Hence my question, as I bought last month a new Sony E1 for 39.90 without contract etc. That's a great android 4.4 smartphone and even after playing poker for hours it only needs a recharge about every two weeks. It also has a big HD screen and is lightweight. I'm very happy and only feel sorry for Mac freaks to spend 800.-$ on a silly Iphone.

It's very easy to get into. Very difficult to get out of.
I prefer portability and choice in my phone, and removable memory cards, easily removable batteries, and...well you get the idea.

I agree with lorelei. Even if Apple would be cheaper, have better apps I wouldn't be using it.- On my PC I use Ubuntu as my main OS and only boot into Win8.1 or OSX86 to recompile my stuff. Probably my main reason is freedom, hence I use proprietary closed source only when needed.

So why are you knocking on Apple, is it because they make great products or you just don't like Apple. I love Apple and Linux, I have no love for Microsoft. At least with Apple, if you have to replace the hard drive, once you connect everything and turn it on, it goes directly to the Apple server, reformats the hard drive and downloads the operating system and there's not that many viruses out there to cause you issues and the anti-virus is built into the operating system. Get a life and stop hating.

Neither the less, the Iphone like other Apple products is priced high compared to its counterparts. Apple is known for making a good product but imo, it don't justify the price. If I were to buy a smart phone tomorrow, I would get something more reasonably priced.
