Intererting........... so everybody I meet and interact with are not only my 'neighbours' (and that can also be in a gobal village internet thingy kinda way) but also my family?
Yup - makes sense... after all we all love some members of our real families, and dislike or even hate others!

I should become a Great Uncle on or about 5th September (my deceased brother's eldest child is about to have a baby!).
I'm thinking of leaving everything to my unborn great neice (I hope the baby is going to be a girl as we have way too many testy men in the family) or great nephew.
The wonderful thing about an unborn child is that it has had zero opportunity to piss you off unless you're the mother and get the odd kick in the belly!
I think we are sort of a family, here at CS. kids, parents, Aunt's Uncles, siblings, grand kids neices and nephews.

I have two families.I have a blood family that I rarely ever see and have never really gotten along with some of them. Then I have the family that I surround myself with who are some people who are really more like family then my real family and who treat as such.I think what makes a family is what you put into it.I've learned that blood isn't much more than genetics sometimes, and that if you want a family you have to make one.Appreciate the people who are there and don't worry about the people who aren't.What makes a family is love not blood.Think about adoptions they aren't blood most of the time. But they're still a family because they have love.

Anna, I couldn't have said it better. I don't get along real well with most of my blood family either, but have close friends who are very much my family of the heart.

Well said. I also, am in this type of family. My former ex-fiances StepFather, a Minister told me that Family is sometimes one you have to choose the members to/for, rather than the one you were born in to.
to me a family is a group of people who are there for each other and take care of each other during the hardest of times and are willing to be with each other through the thick and the thin.
despite how much they get on your nerves you still love them and vise versa.
A FAMILY is that group of people that build a family TOGETHER. They support one another, love one another and can rely on one another. THAT'S a FAMILY, not just people who share the same blood or name. I'm glad to HAVE a FAMILY!!!

To me a family is a group of living beings which share lives, love and commitment towards each other. I'm a single mum and my girl is 10 now so of course I've gone through the various explanations as to why we're different to a lot of other families and had to redefine what the word family meant to her...well thats the definition we've come up with. Now she's happy to know that she's still part of a family...even if it consists of me, her, one crazy doberman and a fat cat
Plus I love the line I read on a fridge magnet once which I think also applies - cheesy but true - Friends are the family we choose for ourselves.
