Smoking does a lot more than turning me off. I hate it. I state my profile I will not date a smoker.

lady93: Hello my fellow West Indian. I was born in Anguilla. I come home every year will be moving back soon cause things are getting pretty bad here lol Anyway I agree with your statment. I hate the smell of it and i dont like the way the order linger in my clothes. I dont think it is discrimination its about what you like and what you can be around. As I was stressing to another poller I dont judge because someone smoke but it is a choice I have the right to make as if I want to date them and be romantic with them. I wont stop being friends or hanging out because they smoke.

wave Hello my friend! I have gone out with friends to places where lots of people smoked and had to go outside because I just could not breath. Even in one and one situations I have a hard time concentrating because I'm trying to get fresh air. My daughter is slightly asthmatic so smoking is not something I can have around her. Glad to meet you.handshake

Im a smoker. Not proud of it, but not ashamed either.

And I dont intend to justify my reasons for doing it. I know its not good for me, but its my body.

I have never had ANY complaints about "tasting like an ashtray"..quite the contrary, actually..blushing laugh

I am a considerate smoker; I dont smoke where Im not supposed to; I dont smoke in non-smoker's houses, I dont smoke in someone's face.

It is my choice to smoke (although I would like to give up) and it is also anyone else's choice not to date me BECAUSE I smoke.

I, personally, find people who drink excessively, do non-prescription drugs, and people who are so far up their own backside far, far more offputting. No, these things dont affect anyone else's physical health - agreed. But they DAMN SURE affect other people's mental and emotional wellbeing sometimes.

However, thats just my humble opinion.

Well, I think you make a good point. There are a lot worse things. And should've added that some of the women I admire most here are smokers...something that continues to puzzle me (why such intelligent, reasonable, and otherwise conscientious individuals would chose this). confused dunno

I know its stupid, and I know its unhealthy. And, as I said, I would like to give up.

But alcohol addictions, gambling addictions and many other addictions happen to very intelligent people also. There are no intelligence barriers to addictions. And that is what smoking is.

It is a well documented fact that depression tends to affect the more "intellectual" people in the world, because they tend to think too much about things, and try to analyse..

I do not condone smoking in any way, and I know it is bad for me. However, so is emptying a bottle of JD every day.

Jan1305: I gave up on the 1st February and feel wonderful.

My profile was adapted accordingly. However, I don´t want to become one of those intolerant, ant-smoking preachers, and somehow ex-smokers seem to be the worst!

Here in Spain smoking is still very common so I can´t avoid it, but most of the bars are pretty comfortable and not too smoky.

So, in answer to the question, I would prefer a non-smoker now, but only because I don´t want to be tempted to start again.

Ima glad they dont allow smoking in Bars here anymore. You have to go outside and smoke and i love it lol

Well, that's clearly true - intelligence does not prevent various addictions. In fact, as you say, often the most intelligent people are more inclined toward alcohol, drugs, gambling, etc. I suppose there isn't any great paradox in that. I guess what I was thinking more about some of my online friends is how well-balanced/well-rounded/grounded they seem to be, as well as being very intelligent. It's more the "seemingly well-balanced/grounded" thing that strikes me as puzzling, I guess. They have such healthy and rational and life-affirming attitudes otherwise, and yet...?confused confused dunno sad flower hug

thumbs up Well I suppose a lot of people might have an addiction or two. Mine are chocolate and cashew nuts, I've been trying to kick it, roll eyes really I have it just hasn't worked, oh well what can you do? Anyway when its my time to go I want to go out clutching both of my 'addictions'. Not sure if anyone here wants to be clutching a pack of cigarettes on their trip to the other side.rolling on the floor laughing tongue
