This poll is to see if there are still hopeful or hopeless romantics who believe in love at first sight. Can love be insant and last? Or are those who believe in it just wishful thinking?
I do...or at least a strong attraction at first sight that can lead to lasting love. My parents are a prime example.
My father is a retired pilot, and when they met my mother was a stewardess. In those days, if you knew a member of the crew for a flight, you could ride free (basically the airline take on hitchhiking). So, dad was signing in on the crew sheet for his flight, and as captain, was signing to the far left, and he's left-handed. Mom was peeking over his right shoulder, and he saw her out of the corner of his eye and put his arm around her waist without missing a beat in signing, then asked her out when he was done. They were married 6 months later, and will celebrate their 48th anniversary this October.
And yes, there is a romantic side of me that absolutely loves their story.
It hasn't always been easy. They've raised three daughters, suffered many miscarriages, and remodeled several houses together. They've had good times and bad times in every aspect of life, and have weathered it all with a very strong partnership still in tact after all of these years. I believe each would be lost without the other.
What on earth does it matter what people "believe"...? Why not ask if anyone ever HAS fallen in love at first sight (or ON first site -depending if you first saw them on a dating site)...

pisces18: Do you believe in love at first sight?
No
Love is when you never want to lose someone, when you would fight the world for your right to be with her.
It’s when she bumps into you in the middle of the night and wakes you up with an elbow in the side, because she often twists and turns in the middle of sleep, but you smile at it, don’t get upset, you smile because that’s one little thing about her which only you know, and you don’t mind because there are a million other fantastic things about her which put a smile on your face.
Love is being away on a business trip, having been away a week, and coming home you fight your way through passengers and checkpoints because you want to get out there as soon as possible, get into your car, or taxi, to get home, get through the door, to drop your stuff, lean into her shoulder and feel that wonderful fragrance of hers which smells so much of home, and then you take her hand, lead her into the bedroom and make love to her.
Love is a woman carrying you for nine months and then going through hours of pain to deliver you, and yet she would go through that pain all over again, instantly, because it’s you.
Love is a sister who finds that her brother is well on a course into misery and lost, who has fallen into drug addiction, who ends up in dark cellars and cold basements, passed out, and she spends hours, days, months, searching for him on the streets, then brings him home, nurtures him into recovery, and makes him find a way back into life.
Love is many things, but instant, it is not. It is far too powerful to be had within the blink of an eye.
Sometimes, if we spent much more time to love, rather than we do to seek romance, we would get more of the two more often.

I do if it is mutual. I tend to think there's a lot of subconscious stuff going on we're not aware of. But maybe it's just lust. I keep getting the two confused
At first sight I think you can see someone that you would like the opportunity to fall in love with. It's superficial appreciation initially but with direction, if that makes sense Lust at first sight is a different desire, love is not required for that nor is it the goal.

What? Love without lust? Now there's a new concept!
I will know whether I like you the moment I see you probably within seconds. I can lust for you instantly!
Love takes me forever to figure out and come to the decision that I do in fact love you. So time must occur for me to love.
My only example: I met my wife and asked her to marry me a year later. I like her the first night I saw her. I lusted for her constantly and almost every minute I was alive.
We were married probably 20 years before it dawn on me that I was in love with her. I comes very slowly for me. It is very powerful and means a lot.

And love is?
'Just come home'
And that is not instant, that takes some time to feel.
