velvetUG: tell ya the truth im conflicted about the bailouts
in my opinion the base problem is education
chipping away at that foundation has led to a many tentacled illness that has a part in us not being an inventive attractive workforce
other countries do things differently than we do i dunno why we are so averse to borrowing ideas that are working
japan uk etc
there are pieces we could be borrowing but if i get into it i get called a socialist which in many ways i am
im sick of the million invisible kids homeless that wont eat tonight and dont attend school in the "greatest nation in the world" (quote)
Yes it is a shame. And i sympathise with what your sentiments.
However i dont think the bailouts can be attributed to a lack of education, but i agree putting the money towards it would definitely be far more beneficial.
There is something to be said of a well educated + informed society
But let me show you how this should work. VS how the bailout did work. You'll see the difference real quick on the educational issue.
President Obama just gave the battery and fuel cell industry $2.4b to develop advanced fuel cell and batteries for cars and trucks. Of that $2.4b about $300m went to Universities and College for advanced educational work (mostly engineering and science) in the field. So there was a educational element to the grants. Also in time ...a real group of new products that benefit society will emerge from the grants.
Now compare this to the bailouts. No money for education, no money for new product development. Money simply to support failing companies and existing products that were having difficulties in the market place.
One is progress and advancement ...the other is not.

I guess I want to add my two cents worth in this. haha I am seeing the health care reform become more of a social reform bill instead and who will get care and who won't. I have known people in Canada who had to wait several months to be seen by a doctor when they had severe health problems and needed surgery right away, so I am against a health care system run by the Government. It will become you will eat and live the way they want you to or they will refuse you any medical care and if you are lucky to get medical care, you will be on the waiting list and you just won't get the care you need right away as it is today if you just walk into an emergency room and have even the smallest problem. The end result is the health care system will basically decide who lives and who dies just to save money.
Obama started a spread the wealth slogan that many thought they would end up getting some free hand outs, haha, well of course when the Government has to put it out, they will throw up the red flag and make excuses but then ask the people to help out each other instead and plus pay taxes, so where is the tax deduction if you help out someone else when you need to pay your taxes, but of course we do anyway if we know the people and they are not out for a scam. I realized the spreading of wealth was not to help out American people in general, but businesses like AIG and bail out auto companies and send a few hundred billion over seas to help out the UK banks and other businesses. That really did a lot for the American people. haha.
Tent cities are something worth googling and seeing how many have sprang up in each State since Obama took office. Interesting and yet when the State or Federal Government is asked to help, there seems to be no help coming and these people have children and some are elderly. some are forced out of the areas they are camped in, others like in Florida have had police come in and cut up their tents and throw all their possessions in the trash and that was all they had to their name. Really freaky stuff that is really sad to see and yet its kept from being put on the National News.
Then this flu scare garbage that the Government is now saying everyone will have to get a mandatory flu shot, when the vaccine has not been tested fully and is not even safe to take. More have died from taking the flu shot then have died from the flu. Now that really makes a lot of sense to want a flu shot when the shot is deadlier then the flu. haha. All you had to do was take in more vitamin C since flu just causes scurvy, yet they never said anything about that, but yet billions are going to be made on a flu shot and the stocks are going to rise for those who have stock in the vaccine.
Now, isn't it supposed to be "we the people" who make up the Nation and decide what we want? How come it has become what only what the Federal Government wants now. Is it just me seeing this or did I drink too much wine at communion? haha I never voted on if the tax payers should bail out the auto companies or the banks and I never voted on a time line to pull out our troops who should never be there to begin with and where was my vote ballot for deciding if I want a Nationalized health care plan? Did you vote on those things? hmmmm.
Phew, glad it was the wine. Give me another bottle and a flu shot, send me to Iraq and give me free health care I will never live to enjoy. haha. God help me.

Women should not be conflicted, Velvet. :-)
