While i dont consider obama the messiah, and he is president at the hardest time in near living memory (excluding the great depression) i am really not sure who could be better placed to try and tackle the grave state of the union is in.

It really wouldn't matter who was president right now, the same mess would have had to be delt with. A great job? No, the cards are stacked against any president with the economy in it's current shape, but I would say he's been one of the most forthcoming presidents we have had in a long time. His plan, following FDR's is wise, but there could be better moves. Let's just remember that without the Congress, he can't accomplish much so the credit / blame will be shared by all.
While I have my doubts that he will see a 2nd term, the man is doing about as well as anyone could. At least he dosen't dodge the press corp like the last administration and he actually answers questions off the cuff rather than insisting on a well orcharstrated (sp?) "easy" question session.
A lot of folks will make fun of him and call his work trash, but strangely I haven't seen one solid counter proposal that had any teeth. Good or bad, we finally have a leader that is leading and in my book that's better. The economy will take care of itself; just a matter of time and patience; it's just all about how patient we'll be and how hard we are willing to work to make it happen.
