I just thought I'd post this to create some general feedback for people who aren't sure what to put in their profiles.
Personally I think having a mix of the above is ideal in any profile, but at first glance, I'd say a a full length photo, with the activities/hobby/sports pic coming a close second.

Passing the ball to you guys & gals...
For me a photo is something one just has to have on a dating site. But what catches my eye… it’s difficult to say… A photo is a bit of a puzzle that you try to put together with all available bits in attempt to imagine the person.
It happens that I like a photo at once without any obvious reasons… well, perhaps because the person doesn’t pose, doesn’t try too hard to make a positive impression, just is himself…
Just wanted to add: there are photos that make a very unpleasant impression, like one person, who checks my profile regularly, has – sunglasses and a hand covering lower part of face… brrrrrrrrrrr…

Maybe he's ugly...and thats why he hides his face....Not everyone can be hansome like me...
Phoenix: Back up sister.....you'd wake up and have breaky with some spotty nosed git...OrSomeone smooth...Don't come of with the PC crap that it's all in the soul.
Oh, sorry, sorry, sorry. Of course, it’s all in the balls.
But there’s no “Close up of the balls” option, so one has to manage with “soul” crap.
As at this vote count, a face close up is the definite favourite (24 votes so far, 11 for face close up).
Let's hear your comments on what features you find attractive then. High cheekbones, nice hair do, good guy/gal or naughty guy/gal image. What hits your eye?
You ask so difficult questions… I never could formulate clearly what I like in the way of looks… I either like someone’s looks, or dislike them, or remain indifferent.
If a person is himself, not posing, not pretending, not hiding behind hats and sunglasses… then it’s fine for me: a human face as it is. What more one can demand?

I voted Close-up of face ... cause I seen too many bodies in real life that dont resemble the full length image photographed ... hahahahaaaa...... pull in tummy, puff out chest, expand shoulders, look taller than a dwarf, etc etc ...... But ..... as most ladies say .... its actually personality and character that counts anyway.
I do appreciate the Big Game Hunters who pose with their "trophies" of dead animals - cause those I just delete and block straight off!

Aren't the difficult questions those that spark the more interesting debates? Besides this is just meant to be a light hearted threads

LOL LOL So funny
I voted Close up of face also.. 'Cos it is mainly eyes and teeth that float my boat. Shallow I know!!
But, if after initial attraction (Of eyes and teeth lol) they are not such a nice person, I say BYE No matter how gorgeous those eyes were...
A smile, and even an attempt to smile: it lightens up the whole face, makes the person look friendly. But for the rest… I have no special facial preferences, but as a physical type I like tall and bony men.
And if a tall and bony man has also got stick-out ears… it’s just irresistible…

Love it .. meaning your post and preference ... sounds a bit like Prince Charles!!!!!
My latest local fan is a Mick Jagger look-alike! ..... and I never ever liked Mick Jaggers looks! ...... but he`s got a great personality, and similar hobbies and interests to mine, so looks are not that important ... but height is, to me ... I prefer a tall man!

Oh, no, prince Charles in not that tall… If I remember right his first wife was almost as tall as him (or slightly taller?) Wasn’t that the cause for their divorce, by the way?

Ja, I know what you mean about Charlie ...... Priscilla suits him though.
Tall is nice, in a man ... But then again, short men have more attitude ....... except I dont like dancing with a short man. Short people are more agressive, and tall people are more calm ... dunno why ...... just what I have found in my people observations.

They know that when hit they have longer distance to the ground to fall
But seriously, to learn that men, adult men, care about what others think about their looks… it was a kind of revelation for me. And all this polls about what features and statures people prefer… I don’t see the point in it. Ok, I’ve got to know that the last fashion is blonde curls… What am I to do? Dice my hair and sleep on papilliots? Fine, that’s accepted in our society, and if I wish or care enough I can do that. But what is a man to do in this situation?

I already said that this was meant to be a light hearted thread. When I first became a member here I had honestly no clue of what type of pics to post etc, and a bit of advice as to what would be more eye catching would have been helpful. If a new member sees this thread and it helps him/her make a nice profile, I'd be happy about that.
If you don't like this thread and see it as 'pointless', no one's forcing you to post on it, not that hard to figure I guess

How about the people who do not post profile pics of themselves....do they have a chance??

With pointlessness I meant that OP can’t get much information on the subject from that kind of survey. For the first, it’s significantly less people participate in forums than there are on this side, and if you don’t know their opinion doesn’t mean that they don’t have one.
I doubt that the “sample” of the active participants is representative for the whole CS population, so the received result is prone to bias. What’s better: to have no information, or to have incorrect information? It’s up to one, of course.
For the second, I think we can see any situation only from the point we stand on at the moment. And as I don’t care what opinion other people have about my looks and whether my photo catches eye or not, so for me it was strange that someone else could care about it. But of course people are different.
I don’t “browse” through profiles, so a photo can seldom catch my eye that way. When people contact me, I look at their profile before I answer. There is more information for me in what they written about themselves than in a photo. After all it always shows the same: a human being.
PS From my point of view I was absolutely light-hearted. Even this post I don’t mean seriously.

Ok I'm glad we're on the light hearted tone of things, it was never my intention to start flame wars
Re-the poll being the end all of all knowledge, I agree with you that this is no 'definite' guide mind you. I also like to read a profile or see somebody's posts on the forums before contacting them, but it does happen that at times a photo will catch my attention and will lead me to click on that person's profile.
I'm also no fashion guru mind, I don't change my looks to please others, if they don't like me, it's their business.
Returning to the original reason for the thread, I'll make you this analogy with advertising. As shallow as it may seem, why do most ads have a picture of someone flashing a bright smile, posing in a seductive way, or something of the kind even if that has nothing to do with the product? Simple, it's eye catching to the human eye. I know, shallow, but that's human nature.
