I read the book many years ago, excellent read and how sad that it actually happened and being a soccer fan at the time thought wow who would have seen that curve ball coming. After I read the book I asked myself the question you posted..back then my answer was sliding towards yes as I had young children,now my answer would be no.

its kind of easy to sit here with a full belly and say i wouldn't.
i'd like to think i wouldn't.
i will say that your logic and thinking changes
more dramatically than you might imagine after being hungry
for a while.
i was in a situation once where i didn't eat for about two weeks.
i found myself literally hating people that were
entering a restaurant, just because i knew
they were going to go in,
sit down, order food, and eat.
there was still a small part of my brain telling me,
"hey, you know this isn't logical, right?"
but the rest of my brain was filled with venom.
i wonder how many more days it would have taken
for the rest of my brain to kill off
what remained of the logical part.
i'd like to think i wouldn't.
