I'm just watching a crazy programme on TV3 about big spenders. There is a woman on it who has run up a personal (i.e. not a mortgage or anything) debt of STG£80,000 - and shows no sign of stopping! I find that scary
I'm just curious about how much personal debt people have - anonymously of course - specifically re: credit cards, loans and sroe cards.

She deserves to be up to her eyeballs in debt, its her own fault, she made her own bed and she go lie in it. How someone can get up to stg80,000 in debt is mindboggling.
Thankfully I only have this months credit card to pay off which is €50 and I haven't had a bank overdraft since 2006.

I know ... I am so surprised by all the debt-free people - where did I go wrong!!!
Ah no, I have a small-ish personal loan ....was €5000 but I think I have just over €2000 left on it. Then, there is whatever is on the credit card. I pay 50% of the total on it every month ... which gives me a bit of leeway, but not so much that I can go to town on it!!! I think there is €2000 on it at the moment. Normally, it wouldn't be over €1000 but I have had an expensive few weeks
Had an uncle who used to say it was important to exercise your credit. That way there will be people who really care about your well-being. Or at least your survival.

In dollars, I don't know how much that is....but it sounds like a lot. I have been in debt and got myself out of debt more than once. What I've learned is how to do something called a budget. Sometimes it makes more sense to buy a car with a loan, than use your savings, if you pay the car loan off fast. I think debt isn't a bad thing depending on why you are in debt. My student loans and education were the best thing I could do for my future and I make good money based on those student loans and education......so I guess it depends on how you look at debt.

None - if I cannot afford it I do without. As long as I have the main necessities that is all I need. On the occasions I need to buy something, rather than use notes I will use my credit card and pay off all the balance when due. It is a very comforting feeling not having debts.

That is crazy Orla - esp as you said she shows no signs of stopping! I personally don't have a single debt (well apart from the airtricity bill I'm in debate over but that doesn't really count as its only for 38.10!) But I've never owned a store card and never will. I do have a credit card but never use it and the few times that I have, its due to a situation where cash is not accepted (ie, car rental) and I always have the cash there at hand and the bill is paid seconds after it goes through the letterbox. Debt would scare the hell out of me - watched my Mom go through hell with it at times due to unavoidable medical bills - and even as a kid swore I'd always do my best to never get into bad situations like you see so many in.
Absolutely none...Zip...Nada...In fact Ive even paid for my accomodations several months ahead. I have no credit/ loan/ lien/ Credit cards none of it...I sleep very well at night.
None. I rarely use my credit card and have no loans outstanding. I only ever use my credit card if i need to buy something online if they won't take my debit card.
