Spent 3 months there in '89. Definitely the most interesting country I've ever been to. Hospitality was great and was invited back to many people's houses and was treated like a king. I didn't dress in the hippie garb and always had clean clothes on. That made a huge difference in the way they treated me. I'll visit again some day.
South Tyrol and Kroatie are the most beautiful parts of Europe.I am interested in Azie.Next year Thailand,Cambodia or Malaysia but India would interest me.Any indications about the cost of living there? How much a months for an average to good life style.I am not a swimming pool style kind of guy.Are there many Pars women in India?
Spent a little time in New Delhi, then off to Rajasthan majorly, travelling through villages and visiting ancient forts and monuments
Loved Jaipur, spent a few days there, also took an overnight train which was a great experience
Visited the Taj, of course and took part in a spiritual experience on the Ganges.
Incredible India, indeed
Serene, Thanks a lot for visiting India. You have quite good knowledge about Rajasthan and toured a lot. I'm sure you visited the "PUSHKAR FAIR" at Pushkar and tested Rajasthani Dance. But I must suggest you to visit Uttaranchal and Himachal Predeas if you get a chance, dont miss it. regards: biswajit
I also have always wanted to see some of India, especially from the stomach (will gladly take any recipes offered ) ... to revel in a countries cuisine is to know their hearts and the rhythm of their days and spirit.

Thanks a lot for advice and reminder. I also break the rules of forum. I'm extremely sorry for that. In future I will not do this thing again and always remember your advice. Again thanks a lot for your valuable advice.
I have read your input to this thread and i have to say India is high on my list of countries to visit... I confess to being a travel "newbee", having only visited france, australia and ireland (i am english by birth)... As a man who very obviously "knows the ropes", could i ask you for your recommendations for a One to two week stay... Where to base myself, and what in your opinion are the "Must see" and "Must experience" places and events...
Thanks in anticipation...Lard...
Thanks for showing interest. First of all I would like to know in which month you are planing to tour. I'm asking you because there is difference of climate from place to place. For example I'll not recommend you to visit Rajasthan (Now the foreigners hot spot)From may to September. You'll get plenty of in formation here
, But best time to visit October to February. But in summer ie, from may to October you will get lots more other places specially Uttaranchal(http://www.euttaranchal.com/tourism/), Himachal Pradesh(http://hptdc.nic.in/), Uttarakhand(http://www.uttarakhandtourism.net/), Sikim(http://www.sikkimtourism.travel/Webforms/General/Transport.aspx), Meghalaya(http://megtourism.gov.in/touroperators.html). I'll suggest you to through the websites of respective govt. websites. apart from this there are lots of places to visit in winter that is from October to Mid March. The Places are Kerala, Tamilnadu. But in summer before start of heavy rainfall (from June to October)I like to Visit Arunachal Pradesh the unexplored thick forest in mountains Paradise of Bird Watchers. Arunachal have very poor connectivity by road you have to made journey through river bed by pure 4 wheel drive vehicle. I really find any place beautiful than that but if you'd like to visit Arunachal you have to call me after landing in India otherwise you'll face some problem of Inner Line Permit etc etc. Better call me.please note I'v no business related to tourism. I'm an avid tourist like you and Indian by birth. I feel its my responsibility to guide our esteem guest and try to make the journey safe and secure. You will get more information here
