My ex was working in Singapore when the kids were growing up. The kids and I were living in Malaysia and their dad would come back only once every 3-4 months and stayed 6 days the longest.
Due to his constant absence, the kids ended up not speaking their dad's language, Tamil. I speak Cantonese to the kids and would very much like them to know Tamil too therefore I engaged a private Indian tutor for them. She was a retired Tamil teacher and was very strict with my kids, especially my son who was only 6 then.
One day, while driving my kids home from their Tamil tuition class, my son threw this question at me, " Mommy, why did you marry Appa?" They called their dad 'Appa' by the way.
I looked at my son through the rear mirror, quizzically...and asked, "Why?"
Taking a big gulp of air, he retorted, "Well, if you have never married Appa, I wouldn't have to learn Tamil, would I ?!?!?"
I muttered under my breath....."Son, if it wasn't for your Appa, you wouldn't be here in the first place!"

Art was in Budapest late 2015 and when being told that the country has a fence up along the border, first thing he thought. “Smart leader!”
