I know a few past and present bloggers in real life and they are both like and unlike their blogging personas. Not sure it is wearing or hiding a face so much as talking to a far larger audience and fishing for more reactions than would be entirely comfortable in a one-on-one situation
N2MY - why not ignore this zombie blogger raising zombie blogs and go add a few more comments to your high-comment blogs? I'm not criticizing that. I think it way better to stick to one blog on one specific subject. Especially when the subject is current and constantly being updated. Brexit on one blog YES. Following the progress of your recent holiday on one blog YES.
Still, being sarcastic about other blogs which have only a few participants after a long run came across as a bit sour. You have a blog in the top 10 most commented and did a lot of work to get it there without any headlines or breaking developments to help you, and you shouldn't belittle that.
Trust me many of us thank you very much for not blogging on the subject on separate blogs 3 to 4 times a day for the entire month as it is anyone could go check on your progress on ONE blog, you seem to have had a great time, and are wished well by many. Win win.
Hi Jigsore! How's Nepal this bright and sunny morning?
Statler and Waldorf are great contrast on the muppets, I'm just not entirely sure why ALL social media has adopted them as role models. Especially a singles website, which really should be more interested in Kermit and Miss Piggy and their complicated single problems - it's a mystery
So far as practising random comments goes, I need to go think up a couple I think. Surprisingly difficult to be random, who knew ...
Blue, yes indeed all the longer blogs eventually become primarily 2 person conversations - you and BA, Z and Red, Nam and BC. But others are never excluded - well, look who I'm telling. You know that better than me. Other comments are always welcomed.
I think the blog problem is that the website is now dedicated to American politics but a few of what Blue calls us zombie bloggers can't understand this.
Perhaps CS would consider opening a sub-section to cover "all other subjects" for their members from the rest of the world, then there would no longer be a conflict of interest. We'd be happy and out of the way, and the main section could concentrate on which septuagenarian they want running the US.
BD can't help you out, the single only other thing I know about giraffes is they have nice eyelashes I'd go copy-paste some useful stuff but that would be breaking my NYR
Nice2meetyou, we never had great bloggers, did we? What we had was original bloggers who wrote original blogs which provoked original comments and some laughter and teasing, and some arguments too. Usually unusual subjects, too, things which made readers think and respond.
Mind you maybe that is the definition of a great blogger.
BD, did you know different giraffe species are different sizes? There's a great book, Raising Daisy Rothschild, about raising a Rothschild giraffe with two of another breed who are so big that once one was standing close to the front door of the house and some dude (I forget who, I read the book a long time ago) walked out and literally did not realize he was walking out under a giraffe.
One of my nieces has just flown to Athens for a business meeting and two other young relatives are off to Portugal on holiday. One of them visits an elderly woman once a week to chat and he won't be able to do that for 2 weeks after his return, but otherwise they don't seem at all worried.
I do think a lot of the panic is whoo and spin but at the same time I'd resist being put in a sealed environment with hundreds of others - only takes one sick person, after all, and we're all sharing the same air. Mind you I resist planes at the best of times.
Vierk, you make me think someone could someday run a blog assigning muppet characters to bloggers. Bags Miss Piggy! Moi? Oh there would be a few of us, I know
Loh as a kid I was terrified of Punch but I really really got cross about the crocodile
You might find having no internet for a while quite liberating? I keep telling myself to switch it all off, and I do, for an hour, maybe even two, then I'm checking for mail or looking on social media and I have no idea why. It's not that long - under 20 years - since I used to only have access to library computers and checked what the world was up to once a week and never felt cut-off
The reaction to and the significance of the current anything - the 21st century is the age of fear, terrible leadership, misinformation, and irresponsible reporting, and as you noted, already way worse than it was in 2009, the mind boggles at what we will be faced with in 2030.
Ronald McDonald as world ruler, perhaps.
The larger the global population grows, the more people there are to control, and historically governments have found that frightened, threatened, xenophobic citizens are more likely to do what they are told than complacent citizens who don't want any change. Ergo, terrify the people.
Very quiet. That was my lasting impression. I had a neighbour with no surviving family who was in Hospice for his last days - I'd visited once at the hospital, where all was rush and bustle and unnerving, and went once to the Hospice. He had a room on his own, very peaceful, and seemed to be sleeping and at ease. As he was in a coma for both visits, and died the day after, it was just the two very contrasting impressions.
My parents were both living in retirement villages at the end, and died in their respective Frail Care wards, semi-familiar surroundings with their families friends and retirement village neighbours allowed unrestricted visiting time. Neither therefore needed to choose Hospice. It is a wonderful option to have, when necessary.
I suppose they probably felt they couldn't justify the price tag if they called it SHOW WOMEN HOW TO BE SUBSERVIENT AGAIN no matter how popular such a course would be with some men.
Ideal Valentine's day for me when I forget that it is and am puzzled then pleased that he didn't
Here in Spain they say el amor y su importancia para la salud. And that it is a day to remember to say to all our padres, abuelos, hermanos, hijos y amigos how important they are to us - everyone who brings love and happiness to our lives, not just our partners. I have no idea what most of that means. My Spanish is not very good.
To me by far the most interesting blogs of all are the ones from people moving from one world into another, their impressions and experiences. People who are actually living life, not merely reflecting their tiny view of the internet.
I hope you'll do more on your new life now, 11 years down the line and in a new country again
You seem quite an impatient sort of man in this blog and you don't smile in any of your photos.
Sometimes we are on phones not computers and don't see the message Sometimes we were signing off to go do something else anyway - we will come back at some point Sometimes we do see there is a message but the face showing looks cross or critical so we shy away because very very few of us want to be bullied or shouted at
Ïn Spain when you go out socially you are hugged and often kissed on arrival, hugged and kissed when you leave, by a dozen or more people and I've got used to it now although I used to be quite uncomfortable with it, how very English of me. I love to be hugged by people I like and care about and have been known to chase after them saying hey we forgot to hug goodbye
