I have heard this question alot and it is tiresome. People can choose and just because they have a picture it does not mean they are the person in the picture so pictures can sometimes be unreliable
Whether M/F I think it should be shared expenses 50/50 on the airfare and other expenses unless the host provided e.g accommodation and paid out for other things e.g excursions, meals etc.. If the man is behaving badly then I do not see any obligation re the above.
It would seem easier but there are still no guarantees the relationship would work even if there were no visa restrictions because sometimes when people meet in real life they are not quite what they imagined. Take your time John...Relocation for anyone is a major life change.
It's true monasteries and convents have to generate income somehow in today's economic climate. In Austria a convent has opened their doors as a health spa to generate money and it is very popular
