Gotta go. Thanks to everyone for posting in my thread. Steve, Melty, Shell, Serene, Writestuff, Angel, Kiz and anyone I've missed. Feels like there's progress being made on that issue already !
That's another great point. You can basically grow cannabis without pesticides. Probably not to much trouble with weeds either as the plants would probably shade the ground after a while and nothing else would grow (maybe)
Yeah, that's hitting the nail on the head. I might make it my lifes work to convert the cotton growers into dope farmers and save what's left of the Murray Darling river system which includes the Macquarie, the river that runs through Dubbo.
To everyone, I respect your oppinions on illegal drug use but what about industrial grade cannabis and its potential to alleviate the stress on our natural ecosystems and to serve as an alternative to fossil fuels? See, I think this issue causes a knee jerk reaction as most people instantly associate cannabis with drug taking but the plant has so much morer to offer than that. Don't forget that the great explorers throughout history circumnavigated the globe and discovered half the world under the power of hemp sails. Ok, some were flax but most of the rope was hemp and there's a whole lot of rope on a sailing ship right? blah blah blah. Can anyone tell me if they've ever worn hemp clothing and what it felt like?
I've driven through those fields and there isn't any apparent security and I don't even remember there being big fences but I've heard that if you stop your car cops come from everywhere. Don't know how it works but no one stops !
That's probably not going to be a huge problem once the potheads realise that they're better off smoking lawn clippings. Also, if you planted cloned male seedlings or somehow engineered a parent plant that only produced male offspring, the THC content in any strain is nearly immeasurable.
I was just reading that as far as ethanol production is concerned, hemp provides roughly double the yield of corn per hectare and cost about half as much to produce (weight/weight).
I'd really like to see a lot of the cotton crop in this country replaced by something, possibly hemp because of the smaller requirement for water. It's cotton and rice irrigation that has the Murray/Darling river system in the sad sorry state that it is in and, well gee, if I was Peter Garret I'd be looking into it.
At this point I'd like to add that I have smoked bucket loads in my time but I don't smoke these days and I generally don't advocate the recreational use of cannabis.
Medicinal/pharmaceutical Hemp, rope, textiles, clothes etc. Oil and fermentation of biomass, possible alternative to fossil fuels. Seeds, in some cultures are ground to make flour.
It kinda frustrates me that there's a whole industry that could be based around this plant and it's not being developed because of the prohibition laws which some say have dubious origins.
