It's nothing to do with sophistication and there is no future in trying to be anyone else but yourself. I tend to think of it as a huge dance now, sometimes you will be asked to dance and you have a chat, sometimes you will asked again maybe a few times, but at the end of the evening you don't always get a date.
yes that goes for me too, but having friends is a great joy and comfort. I think everyone should be able to stand alone, I have a notion they can make for a stronger relationship if it comes along.
