Hi I know they target British women and are often very succesful! Majority of tourists here in summer are british, they do think all Americans are loaded so i would say yes that is part of the reason. Usual way is holiday romance, but in winter no tourists and no work for them. Turkish men are notorious (not all are bad). Haven't heard the same about Greek men.
Here they are looking for money more than a visa, most have a wife tucked away somewhere
