I agree, also don't expect to much from yourself early on , for me it was like going thro a kind of bereavement, take each day at a time, welcome support from your friends
For a while i managed a respite unit to give families an break, and sadly i saw this happen many times, it puts a huge pressure on a relationship, and i have so much admiration for people who give there all 24/7 like yourself.
Sometimes that's really hard to do because instinct is to protect, but focusing on an individuals strenghs and not their needs will develop self esteem and a sense of value.
Not quite the same thing, but i used to work with Adults with Learning learning disabilities who for most of there lives had not been allowed to think for themselves because there opinions held no value, or try to anything for themselves because it had been decided for them they would fail.
