RE: RIP- Heath Ledger

Yeah, Claire, he was in that movie with Mel Gibson about the American Revolution - The Patriot, I think - you know, Claire, where the Americans kicked British butt? .confused One helluva movie, I thought.laugh

Damn, I liked that dude.

Jeff

RE: RIP- Heath Ledger

That's seriously f* up. Waaayyy too young. I really enjoyed him as an actor.

RE: Sister Karens Confessional

I humbly accept your remonstrations and your blessing, dear Sister. Shall I remove my hat when I enter your abode?love laugh

RE: 'quotes'-- Your own

Of course I understood the metaphor, Jeffrey, but I couldn't resist the siren's call of yet another lame pun. I actually liked the point you were making, btw...hug kiss Don't think I'll ever ask you to make lemonade for me, however.tongue

RE: Life... What's The Point ... ?

Good one, NaturAL. That's the logical quandary those who believe altruism is a panacea must face. I actually wrote a short story on that subject that *almost* got published decades ago: the idea was a society where everyone wished to serve everyone else, and their messiah was someone who preached selfishness (in a twist on the Jesus myth). (It would've been published if I'd taken the editor's suggestion to soften what he viewed as a pro-selfishness/anti-Christianity theme).

RE: Life... What's The Point ... ?

Why (or how) would a "master being" or a "master plan" create a point for living? How would some other being's plans give our lives meaning?dunno confused

RE: 'quotes'-- Your own

Oh, just thought of another one, contemplating Athens' photo: You're a sight to make sore eyes. (As opposed to a sight for sore eyes...ah, get it?)roll eyes

RE: Happy Birthday Friksmal

Hey, guy, I hope you finally find what you're looking for on that beach. Maybe today will be your lucky day. Happy Birthday!

Jeffwave hug

RE: What do u usually wear to bed ?

Same with me, D. I'm nekkid except for my cowboy hat (or bandanna). I figure if there's a fire or something, I need to be prepared to be quickly decent in public.blushing

RE: You and your b/friend/g/friend get in your first fight..how do u handle it?

That might be the right thing to do, D, but I think the basic way to respond is to...relax, and understand conflict is inevitable. It's how you handle it - staying respectful, not losing sight of your affection for the other person - that will bring you back together...assuming you want to come back together...wave innocent

RE: Ladies...Does heighth of a man really matter?

WIth my hunchback, I'm under 6 feet. Willl that work?

Maybe this time you could pose with a panther...and nothing else, Blue Eyed. Just a thought... (a black panther would really set off you blond hair and blue eyes, I think.love)

If I can wear a purple hat, Uli, you can surely wear a green one. Besides, green is most emphatically one of your colors, imo.

Stop with the excuses, girlfriend, and get to cow-girlin'.

That was weird...I read "autistic" instead of "artistic" in your kind comment, Uliconfused wave)

Well, Rose shamed me out of my toga into my cowboy outfit, but I'm not sure she'd consider that to be an improvement. tongue laugh

RE: AT LAST!!!! DUBLIN PICS!!!!!!!!!

Thanks, Oslo! Well-done!

RE: What Happens when you google your user ID?

Not good at all, Jb, not good at all.blues moping

RE: On the problem of freewill.

That's a politico-ethical issue, Twinself - how much individual autonomy is proper in a society? - nothing to do with the question of free will, which concerns the nature of human capabilities.

RE: On the problem of freewill.

I think he's beens studying at Wikipedia, since those paragraphs were pasted from there. laugh

Otherwise, I share your views about insight versus information. Still, you have to establish an overview of the salient questions before attempting an analysis of them - insightful or otherwise.

RE: On the problem of freewill.

Thanks, Ray. Perhaps you didn't notice, but I actually compared you to Zarathustra at one point a few weeks back - I said something sort of insulting like: "You remind me of Zarathrusta with a really bad hangover," or something to that effect. But seriously, you do strike me as something of a Nietzschean character, and I can't help but be charmed by that since he's one of my favorite philosophers (my favorite philosopher-writer! God, his prose...smitten) I also greatly appreciate any serious thinker, and you're one of them. Nietzschean

I've been interested in philosophy since childhood, and tend to have friends who share that interest (some are academics, some not). I'm a lover of ideas, but have no formal training in philosophy.

Jeffwave thumbs up

RE: Which movie can you watch over and over and never get bored of?

Life of Brian. Gone with the Wind. Super Troopers. laugh

RE: Cryonics

Nothing to worry about at all, Claayyeer. I've already done it and come back, and I'm fine, just fine (though I could've done without the screws in my head).

RE: Agree to disagree... is it possible?

I think you're being silly and ridiculous to even suggest that, JB!

RE: Has anyone been watching the news?

Yeah, my son believed that silent, fast-moving triangular craft that he and his friends watched closeup was military. We lived about 50 miles from Travis Airforce Base. I asked some of the pilots there (I worked for a few of them) if they knew anything about experimental aircraft being tested in the area. They replied that if they told me they'd have to kill me...in fact, after working on their pianos, they were pretty much of the mind to do that anyway (another good reason to retire from my former professionlaugh blues)

Jeff

RE: Has anyone been watching the news?

Yeah, Constanza, that missile-like object has been analyzed at some length by some of us in the "UFO community." Nothing definitive has been discovered thus far.

RE: Has anyone been watching the news?

To quote a wise philosopher - "Busted!"doh laugh kiss
