Why is it so difficult for people with opposing points of view to have a rational discussion without it turning into name calling, rude remarks and immature behaviour?confused

I agree. Just because you don't agree with a person's opinion doesn't mean you can't respect it.

Agree to disagree!!! Of course!! Totally possible!!! Justa s long as you know that I'm only humouring you and I AM right!! rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

Nah! Seriously ... sometimes it's a little difficult to remember one's manners and emotional maturity when someone acts in a totally purposely obtuse, norrow minded, self-absorbed or outrageously disrespectful way ... generally, towards one or towards people who we know don't deserve it ... dunno

I think you're being silly and ridiculous to even suggest that, JB!

I knew a guy like that,he was an IRK to SMIRK type of guy. He'd disagree with everything I SAID,NO MATTER WHAT,just to get under my skin, and in all honesty, everytime I see him,I'm tempted to slap the lips off his face.grin

I am going to add that to my repertoire as in :Kiss you? Right now I'd really like to slap the lips off your face!

It is a fabulous phrase.

I think this is a large part of the problem with communication these days.
Kids aren't learning how to discourse with others.
It's either a bunch of fighting and arguing.
Or on the flip side, they avoid conflict to the extent that they become passive-aggressive.

yes i am somewhat in agreement w/ you.
passive agressive or no knowing of self care at all...

which creates problems as well

this is why staying realllly in touch w/ our kids is important
