I hate to admit it, because he was ragging on some of my friends, but that guy *was* funny. I can't help appreciating someone who's clever with words/puns.
It isn't as an uncommon problem as you might think, New. A lot of physically sound people have self-destructive streaks a mile wide, while physically handicapped people often excel at financial and personal success. There isn't any easy answer, but it sounds like it's time to let her go. She's had all the help in the world, and it didn't matter.
I meant, let her go "financially." I see nothing wrong with being there for her as a friend - but it seems pointless to help her materially.
Ah, Ken, it's good to know some other poor sap has been down this lonely and certainly fruitless path. But thanks for your good wishes! They were good wishes...weren't they?
Sometimes, T, it's like that song, "If you can be with the one you love, love the one you can't be with." That's how I feel about a certain moderator. (Perhaps my godly visitor this morning will help bring her down from Mt. CSus?)
Just had this idea, given what always seems to happen to those who very noisily profess their love here. It's kind of a metaphysical question. If a moderator and I were to publicly declare our undying love and impending matrimony...what kind of chaos might ensue on this list? Might it be like introducing a deadly computer virus into this site, causing the CS world as we know it to implode? Or would CS transform into paradise on virtual Earth?
This could be dangerous, but I think the scientific angle makes the risk well worthwhile. Now what beautiful moderator is willing to join me in this noble scientific task? (I admit I'm hoping for Tallbrunette:-)
Let's start off New Years right, folks. And nothing brings in the New Year better than Dionysus himself, to whom I pay humble tribute. To a thread without inhibitions, riddled with faux drunken, orgiastic revelry. Please don't make me play with myself.
