When I was Freshman @ CWRU one of my Fellow Freshmen was 61 yrs old. I admired him. He told us that he was forced into early retirement by his company down sizing. His wife told me later, that when he came home one day after they had had a very bad spat that morning and told her he wanted to gp back to school, she told him to do so if he wanted to live b/c by putting his management skills on her, he was cutting his life expectancy drastically.
He graduated @65 went on to a second career @ NASA as an Electrical Engineer and Applied Physicist.
Um, Ali you misunderstood him. He said that as soon as he arrived, SHE dumped him. so he picked himself up and dusted himself off, (Emotionally). He then traveled and made the most of his trip to her country.
As for me, I have always said I am open to LDR and much in person visits, and if we get along in person as well as we would in email, chat and IM or the phone. . . then going to the next level. That means more than one visit.
My Older Foster Brother met a girl in the Ukraine. He travelled there Three times and visited with her. She then came here and they married almost a year ago. They are very happy.
Gary,(my Brother) had said that he felt it was his duty as the Man to travel. Ola had told him early on she was no Russian Bride if he was interested He came there to meet her. She also has a young son so travel was not an option.
I feel the same way. For many guys, this would not be acceptable. I am not able to travel for financial reasons as are many in this boat here in CS.
I would urge you to look at things, that we, as females, have to consider. For example, As SV has said, Learn the laws of the areas/Countries you wish to visit. If you look at Sources like Wikipedia, in terms of rules for Women in your Country, it opens with a Great Description. That, then, completely deteriorates, with the reports that follow.
Place yourself in the shoes of a Woman reading these words then, see why she would hesitate.
Not only that, but your country is having a war. Many women abroad, think twice about going into a country whilst this is going on.
For me, if I really Loved Him and Knew it was returned, We had met and got along as well in person as via cyber and other media, AND it was a Country where I could use my Education and or Continue it as needed, and the Jobs were amenable, would I go? Yes, absolutely.
Remember, though, I have one more obstacle than most other women, I am Handicapped. I am Deaf.
While learning languages comes easily to me and I have many friends here in the USA from other Countries.
Have met many others While a Student @ CWRU, two of my best friends are AUE natives.
Also, though, I have never had a problem getting along with nor communicating with both guys and gals from other Countries, the problem would lay in the fact that MANY other countries consider handicapped individuals to be, well, less than human and very expendable.
Suppose, I went to a Country where women do not have as many rights or freedoms as, we have here in my country. I reviewed and followed the rules as a good guest. But one day I misunderstood something and was then in heaps of trouble all b/c I cannot hear.
Even in English, this happens. But compound that by the viewpoints of a Foreign Countries Laws, you have the potential for a night mare.
Therefore, I HAVE to THINK long and hard before I leap.
Would I love to Travel? Oh yes, definitely. Will I? I hope so, G-d willing.

It is Much Worse now. Need attention in our Back yard definitely. When you are told by more than three Professional Agencies you have worked for in the past that there are no Jobs for Technicians, b/c there are too many Engineers laid off, then there is a problem. I have had this for ~ 7-8 months now and it is getting worse, as the Auto Industry closes plants here in Ohio,as well as other States. Definitely need attention AT HOME.
I LOVE the smell of a TS and the sight too. Than G-d my younger dogs dont mind it. My 19 yr/o that passed in December was so scared of them she would crawl under the Mattress and dump me out of the bed.
Erm, Legality does not have anything to do with it, IMO. I am Allergic to it. just a whiff of it coming from the neighbors can cause my heart to race out of control.
Having been married to a guy that had both a drug and alcohol addiction, (He could not even start the day w/o either), I am very leery of a guy that says he only smokes occasionally, as that IS ALL my Late Husband was doing when we met.
IM Experience, there is no such thing as a social User. They all start that way, but then every single person that I have known ends up doing it all the time.
Also, the pesticides used today, in South America and other Drug areas, are extremely potent and when burned turn into Radioactive Isotopic Daughters of Uranium, making the weed have the equivalency of Radiation equal to over 800 Chest x-rays in a one year period.
The bloodshot eyes and blank expression is a turn off, big time, as is the smell of beer on a guys breath the next morning after he was too drunk to brush his teeth the night before.[
So these things combined, would I have less of a problem with it if it were Legal? UM...No, I would have the same problems with it....... SORRY Guys, just the way it is for me./color]
When I was a kid, i used to say, I would rather have been blind just to be able to hear. My Mother, sat me down for a heart to heart and told me no you would not. She and my Father helped me to see many things, that I was able to do that if I were blind, I would not be able to do.
As I grew up, I became grateful that this was the sense I lost and not another one. I would choose to be just as I am if I had to loose a sense.
There ARE some gals that would want his email, not, I, but some others.
So, sorry you went through that. At least the guys that tried that with me, in email had towels on or just cropped it @ the last minute, that is why my profile says what it does. Feel free to copy and use any part of my Profile.
Good for you. I hace been Deaf since I was 1.5yrs old. My Parents taught me to be upfront about my Deafness.
There are many though, that are not as upfront as you or I. Too much pride, for one, fear of not having the companionship they want. To the former, they have to learn. To the latter, They have yet to learn that people that have a problem with it are NOT people one wants in their life.
Um, I am Deaf. It is easier for me to text. I can do phone with much patience,(Iwear hearing aids). There are some circimstances where phone does not work.
I have noticed that guys with mild hearing loss, skate around the issue. They cut things out that make it awkward for them. They also usually do not admit they have a problem and canna hear the fullest of a phone conversation.
I susspected this when you said he says thanks for calling.
These type of guys have a lot of PRIDE and so things to keep from being embarrassed.
I know that to go to a Movie and ask for the CC1 to be turned on. I was told by one theater, they get too many complaints from hearing payers that they don't turn it on, a direct violation of FCC rules.
I other theaters, the CC1 is ALWAYS broken. If I were more mercenary, I could sue them successfully, but I am not.
The same senario for other places people gather, too much noise and too dark to readily Lip-read.
I was never a Bar sceene person, but the same goes for in there.
I get the impression, maybe he has a mild hearing problem and is coping w/o really coping,(admitting it).
I don't know where she gets it from the other two girls are Ok, but Zorrie is the only dog I have ever had that I have to work on this with. She and Zhammie are my first Lab mixes.. Zhammannah is a Sweetie, 1/2 American Lab and German Short hair pointer, 1 yrs, Sharah is a Min Schnauser and, also, a sweetie, 12 yrs..
Um, well yeah, somewhat. I'd have to take my 2yro Big English Lab/Leopard Cur for a walk, though, Sarah and Zhammie are ok with people but Zoriah has to get used to guys for some reason.
