Unfortunately there are too many strange people about and you have to take the time till you are totally comfortable for each step.

Was brought up in Surrey and public transport was no problem.

At 16 I was in to motor bikes and my horrified parents said if I waited till 17 they would help me get my driving licence, which is what happened.

Never did get a motor bike, or a car then as was often out or buying clothes! Hence no money.

Living in Suffok which I have for many years now, a car is needed in most rural areas.

I could not get to work or out occasionally without a licence and car.

You have sorted it out in your own mind really and I hope you have come to the conclusion that this guy is not for you.
Personally I would not have any further contact with him, other than to say maybe he is not what you need in your life.
He sounds very pushy and controlling and will only get worse as time or a relationship progresses.
