When I lived at home with my parents it was a tradition for my mother to bake cookies, stollen bread and coffeecake that was made in a coffee can. The cookies weren't too bad, the stollen was dry and hard and the coffeecake was awful but we all told her that everything was delicious. For decorations she had these little tiny elves that she would attach to chairs, curtains, all over the livingroom.
When I raised my daughter I continued with baking as many cookies as possible until I couldn't stand any longer.. but I bought a stollen from Entenmann's. For those not in the U.S. Entenmann's is a bakery that delivers their goodies to the supermarket. I continued with the elve tradition and attached them all over the house and made it a game that my daughter had to find them.
Now my daughter is married and she continues with baking delicious cookies. She has continued with the tradition of attaching the elves all over her livingroom, bathroom and kitchen and I have to find them. It's pretty cool and fun for both of us.
I've never had a Christmas miracle.
My fondest memory of Christmas as a child is that my parents were nice to my sister and I that day. My father made a big deal out of the socks or handkerchief I gave him and my mother "loved" the apron I gave her. After Christmas is was back to the usual crap.
I have a lot of good memories of my daughter Christmas morning but the one that stands out the most is when she was 15 I gave her a princess phone and she didn't have to pay the bill out of her allowance. The look of surprise on her face was priceless.
After the last debate I was favoring Ron Paul too but today I heard some very serious things about him and racissm. He was interviewed about it on CNN and didn't want to answer the questions. In fact he took the microphone off and stormed out of the interview. Looks like he has a very ugly past when it comes to African-Americans.
Referring to my last boyfriend, if I found out he was daing someone I would laugh to myself and think.....she'll learn what he's all about in due time.
When I was a child my bedroom was right off the kitchen and I had to walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. I remember getting up to go to the bathroom and there was my mother, at the kitchen table, putting a dollhouse together. She was shocked to see me and played it down that she was fixing something that had broken. Being a child a didn't give it a thought that it was in the middle of the night.
My husband and I did the same thing when our daughter was a wee one. We waited until she was asleep to put together a little metal stove, refrigerator and table and chairs.
When I think back to favorite gifts as a child there were three: A crenolyn.....for the guys, that's a petticoat with lots and lots of layers to make a skirt big and full; a little tin typewriter; and, a doll that felt like a real baby.
I'm not good at spotting the trolls in the beginning and so I'll respond to them as if they were any other poster. A friend on here usually emails me to stay out of the thread because she knows he/she is a troll. She does that to save me from getting in the middle of what will eventually be an argument because she knows how the troll works. She's a good friend and has saved me more then once and I appreciate her immensly.
Thank you for the song luv but I'm not spanish and don't understand it. Doesn't matter.....it's the thought that counts.
"Montecito" is a town in California.

The Pope and Obama are on the same stage in Yankee Stadium in front of a huge crowd.
The Pope leans towards Mr. Obama and says, "Do you know that with one little wave of my hand, I can make every person in this crowd go wild with joy? This joy will not be a momentary display, but will go deep into their hearts and they'll forever speak of this day and rejoice!"
Obama replies, "I seriously doubt that! With one little wave of your hand? Show me!"
So, the Pope backhanded him and knocked him off the stage!
AND THE CROWD ROARED AND CHEERED WILDLY and there was happiness throughout the land!
