Linux is also safer where viruses are concerned, as most of the viruses are targeted at Windows, due to its dominance in the PC market.
Linux is also safer as any program you run, you can only run it in your home directory, thus if anything goes wrong, only your data will be effected, and not the whole installation.
Well, on both Windows and Linux I use Firefox, with a lot of security add-ons installed and enabled!!
Nettermann, everything has got its good and bad points.
Personally, I would prefer if Linux does not mess up my video drivers with each and every kernel update. Have been trying/using various distros for ages, but this problem is encountered in each and every distro that I tried.
If an 'old' piece of software is still useful and is still being updated, there's no need to upgrade or replace it, unless you need some new features that it doesn't have.
As at home I rarely use office applications, I use OpenOffice. Its freeware and compatible with older MS Office versions.
Btw, is the version of MS Office you're using is Office 2007? And if yes, is it a full version or a demo. I'm asking the question as the demo expires after 60 days, and you will not be able to access the documents you've created using it, after it expires, if they are saved in the new .docx format. Currently, the only option would be to buy Office 2007.
Btw, regarding your word documents, save them with the .doc extension and not the .docx one. From the drop down in Save As window, select an older version of Word.
Excuse me for not giving you much more details, but I don't use MS Office 2007.
Can you explain what's problem with Internet Explorer (IE) running under Vista? IE is part of the Vista operating system, and works as soon as Vista is installed.
Regarding Skype, I don't use it, thus can offer any help.
