RE: Venting a little...

It all comes down to intent and only the person involved can know the true intent of their words. But some are not aware due to their lack of self examination, what the real intention or purpose of their words are.

RE: Venting a little...

I understand your pessimism tom, right now the signs don't look too good.
However a change is slowly happening across the world. An awareness is taking place with a growing momentum.
But while so much ignorance and lack of true awareness presides in the minds of so many, the path to world peace will remain illusive.

Buddhism, as all major religions can only point the way, but the true path to peace and harmony lies within the individual. It could be said, our real purpose on this earth is to become aware of this truth and act accordingly.

RE: Venting a little...

The self serving aggression displayed on here by some posters is a clear indication of why we have so much disharmony and hatred in this world.
All we can do is ensure that we, indivually, don't allow ourselves to be negatively affected and remain aware that aggression in general and self centered thinking in particular will never make this world a better place.

RE: are the eyes the windows of your soul?

For some people it's good to believe that.

RE: are the eyes the windows of your soul?

Your actions are the windows of your soul.

RE: D-Day ... remembered

It was a grave tragedy indeed. I visited Slapton Sands many times some years ago with no knowledge that such a beautiful spot could hold such a dark history.

RE: D-Day ... remembered

It's a little known fact that American troops suffered their greatest loss in preparation for the D-Day landings and it took place on Slapton Sands, a small shingle beach in South Devon.

In the Spring of 1944 around 750 American GI's were shot down or drowned in a practice exercise for the later invasion of Europe.

Nothing of what happened was reported at the time , despite it being the greatest loss of life to American troops since Pearl Harbour.

RE: Something To Think About

Well police brutality in this instance can't be denied, it does however get a bit blurred when we try to work out what the real intention was. On the surface it looks racially motivated, but that may not have been the case, these cops may have been just as brutal to you or I.

Yes, I believe in collective consciousness having briefly experienced it's presence on more than one occasion.

The 100th monkey phenomenon is a good metaphor, but it has no basis in fact.

RE: Escaping the Matrix is not easy...but can be done

The MatrixIhas so many references to Buddhist doctrine that it is clearly obvious to anyone who has studied Buddhism that there is a direct correlation in the film with Buddhist beliefs.

There are far to many references to list here, but as an instance...At one point Agent Smith goes so far as to say,
"I believe that, as a species, human beings define their reality through suffering and misery.”

This is a direct quote from Buddhism. Also the clear message that the reality we perceive is not true reality, more the reality we have within. Again, a fundamental Buddhist belief.

The Matrix is humanity's self constructed illusion, or the illusory prison of the mind, a perfect description of what is known in Buddhism as Samsara.

To escape never ending Samsara we have to do as Neo did when he became aware he was living in an illusion. He had to renounce everything, including any hope of escaping the Matrix. In this final surrender...death, Neo is reborn as The One and is able to see through the illusion of the Matrix and destroy the AI that keeps humanity imprisoned.

Neo could have been called Buddha...laugh

RE: I'm not prejudices, I hate everyone.

Do you prove to others you have a good heart and soul?

That's the first step.

RE: benefits from smoking...?

Not looked at the link but I know nicotine is more addictive than heroin. More dangerous also, a very small amount injected into the bloodstream, as heroin often is, would kill you instantly.

RE: A chat about fear

My post wasn't in reply to yours, in fact I've only just read it.
Clearly there are different kinds and levels of fear. Some, most in fact, are rooted in early experiences, probably from childhood.
These are irrational fears and can even manifest as complexes.
Some are from past experiences that teach us to be more careful, to re-evaluate how we go about our lives. A child burning itself on a hot stove is a simple example.
It's totally understandable after the experience you had that you now fear going outside at night alone. Your fear is rational and that's surely the purpose of fear....to keep us safe.

RE: benefits from smoking...?

Yes there's definitely a moral to that story.

RE: benefits from smoking...?

Those were the days, sat in a bedsit with friends, everything to hand, but no one has any papers and all the shops have closed for the night. That's when you find out that newspaper is not a good substitute for ciggie papers.

RE: benefits from smoking...?

In Alan Carrs book, Easy Way To Stop Smoking he dedicates a full chapter to the benefits of smoking. It contains one blank page.

5rhythms Chorlton Sunday nights, when the social distancing ends....certainly no taboo there.

RE: Modern dancing advice for men

Zoom was mentioned but swiftly discounted. It would defeat the whole purpose of 5rhythms. Seventy people together wildly or at times softly, closely interacting with each other.....without any alcohol or inhibitions.

Very good for the soul.

RE: Modern dancing advice for men

5rhythms is my kind of dancing. Unfortunately my weekly sessions are victim to the social distancing. Too sweaty and too much body contact...sigh

Yes, there was quite a debate going on about the 5G masts.

Nothing like a good mast debate.

RE: The prisoner

So what's with the 5G Lee. You're not one of those burning 5G masts down are you?

RE: The prisoner

It is a unique place set in stunning surroundings. A friend of mine got married there, he lives just outside Criccieth near Portmeirion now, his wife was from Porthmadog. Sometime we sail over to the amazing beach at Portmeirion, pure white sands and palm trees due to the Gulf Stream and it's effect on that region.

The Prisoner Appreciation Society

They hold an annual convention at Portmeirion in North Wales, a fantasy Italian styled village where the cult series was filmed.

It's an amazing place and attracts tens of thousands of visitors every year.
