there is an empty page which could be full of love of words that say hello how are you, would you like a hug? a cup of coffee Have you been here long? But greetings are too simple when there's anger close at hand an argument to carry on till bombs have ripped the land to shreds and peace is just another word for broken spilled milk across the ground that could be bearing flowers, growing fruit were it not sown with salt distilled from tears where hope is turned into a shadow entangled in the rubbish of opinions instead of flying free to make my world a place of love.
This is a fine document and if human beings were to put its precepts into action in their lives, every day, hope could rise triumphant from the wreckage we have wrought.
We all of us (and I include myself) need to stop underlining those parts that emphasise the points for the battles we are determined to win and dig down beyond the words and embrace the spirit which calls to the best that we can be instead of struggling so mightily to turn abstracts into concrete.
The outlook is bleak if you watch the news and if you watch the 'masses'.
However, I see individuals taking the time to pick up a piece of litter, to volunteer their time at hospices or with underprivileged children and I feel hope.
It is my belief that if we pay attention to all these apparently 'little' efforts that people put forth every day and put forth a 'little' effort of our own, we can turn the tide. we don't have to fix it all, just fix what is in reach. and that maybe just a smile to your neighbour.
It is rather like housework, the place is a wreck but if you move from room to room picking up as you go it never takes as long as you think to restore some order.
As for global warming, i have a great deal of faith in Nature. I am not sure WE will survive when she decides it is time to clean house but I am pretty sure the world will. and if enough of us reduce our individual carbon footprints hey! maybe we will get to stay too.
Gloom and doom sells more papers and makes better movies but I prefer the positive attitude.
I am a little taken aback to find we are in agreement as my experience of your positions is that you make little or no room for opposing viewpoints. Your responses frequently imply thst disagreement with your point of view is the sign of a lesser mind.
To juxtapose the ten commandments with Dr. Seuss as you did in response to goose is almost certain to be read as an insult. Your courtroom has the bible, goose would decorate his walls from childrens books? To insult with smiling civility is still to insult. As always it is the intent and the inference created, not the words themselves that count.
In this one case I agree, display is not imposition
The mere display of words imposes nothing, If everyone who entered the courtroom was required to recite them and give credence to them, then you have imposition. Just having them on display, ewell, there is no guarantee anyone will actually notice they are there. Or read them.
People in courtrooms frequently have more on their mind than what is adorning the walls.
Following thr rules of a given community does not entail the sacrifice of individuality, merely the exercise of restraint.
Before I choose to settle somewhere I check to see if the rules of the communiy conflict with my beliefs to an extent that to observe them is going to require a fundamental change in me - or outright hypocrisy on my part as I 'pretend' to fit in.
I like the way i am, and pretense is tedious after awhile.
If the rules do not suit me, I do not stay long. That maybe why I always rent!
I think the controversy and upset is over far more than words.
The face of the world has changed so much that people are dying over beliefs, whether they have them or not.
Ths world is full of arguments and concepts yet the minute one tries to align with a philosophy or belief system the roaches come out of the wood work with bludgeons to make us change our minds.
We live in a world of murky uncertainty, made cloudy by those who scream and rant but take no action We are asked to be honest, keep the commandments and yet when we try to elect a leader we are hard pressed to find one who has not sinned (and lied about it on national TV).A lie about being shot at in a foreign country described as 'a minor blip'?
There was a time when religion, whether one subscribed or not to a particular belief set shone with a stable light (no pun intended). No more. The evangelists wallow in excess and turn the temples into a mockery, selling indulgences again. I read with interest that the Church is making adjustments to the Word which go beyond a more exact translation. Perhaps it IS the end of days and Jesus is stopping off in the Vatican before doing the big reveal.
Yes, I am being sarcastic but it seems to me the deadly sin we all need to look at is the pride and arrogance that suggests to any of us that we can say this is how it should be done.
We are all so busy talking, full of our opinions and our rights.
Perhaps if we started to listen, and think of our responsibilities?
