It's a mistake to put much stock in what a lot of the Michael Moore type films portray America being about... There's little, if anything he likes about America.

Point taken on smokers paying more health costs. Hard to argue.

Of course, hiking the cig taxes reduces the pool of people paying the cigarette taxes as smokers will decrease.

Since I don't drink much, I'd like to see the booze tax increased by 167%, like they're wanting to do cigarettes. But then, I'd like to see a fat tax too...

Now. think of the ramifications if everyone that has a disease brought on by their own neglect was taxed??? I think I agree with your methodology Ship, come to think of it. I won't take time to expound...but the possibilities are endless.

Look at the Romney model for healthcare. He should have it on his website. Don't know that it's great...but less government control for sure.

Most people prefer to be in control of their environment whenever possible.

Since the healthcare plan is on the table and it's going to consume much of the gnp, I think it deserves a lot of healthy discussion. That's my view?

People shouldn't walk blindly into anything w/o knowing the consequences...regardless.

Look at the Social Security mess and the Medicaid/Medicare mess?

What are your thoughts on Senator Hillary Clinton's proposal to give every child $5000 at birth. While it's not clear to me, I believe the money have to be invested and not readily available until the child reaches 18 (or maybe 21?).

Your thoughts?

Nice part about it...if a guy doesn't like a strong independent woman, he can elect to not continue a relationship...and vice versa.

2 points:


A family making $82,000 a year wouldn't, by most people's standards, be a "poor" family. In particular, Congress raised the spending x 3, so it would be vetoed. The original bill would have passed easily. You may want to quit watching CNN?

The Clinton's 1st plan in the 90's did not allow people to utilize their own doctor. I prefer to keep the doctor I've had for 20 years. On that basis alone, I was against it.

One has to question what the government really does well... (generally speaking)...
