RE: When do you know someone is exclusively yours?

As a venerable old Jewish gentleman once proclaimed:
"There are only three things faithful in life: Money, a dog and an old woman."

I'm inclined to believe that 's still the case for the dog...

RE: Let's play numbers...

3.14 not to make things more complicated than they are...

RE: Why does the Irish race speak English....?

Today's Gallic or Celtic languages left are Irish, Welsh, Cornish, Breton and Manx.

There are more fluent speakers of Welsh than there are of Gaelic (Irish).

RE: What percentage of profiles on CS do you think are fake?

If you get many messages from fake profiles, you shouldn't jump to conclude that fake profiles are are a substantial fraction. It's rather a minority but they send more opening messages in a day than genuine members send in one year.

What´s the best country to find a date in the EU?

Last few likes came from Austria, Italy, Denmark, the Channel Islands and Malta. Not exactly places loaded with beggars scouring CS.

RE: Forgive & Forget - Can You?

Think I would let the scenario be guided by The Corrs:

RE: finally, I found Ipanema Girl

Alessandra Ambrosio, the girl from Ipanema, must be an old granny in the mean time. I hope she's still around...

RE: Where does ''luck'' come from ....?

Where does ''luck'' come from ?

Ages ago four Chinese were granted permission by the Emperor to emigrate to an new emerging promised land called the USA. The two men Pu and Lu and two women Su and Fu were talking about life in the USA.
'They speak English over there' Pu said. "We should familiarize and adapt our names so that Americans recall them better.'I think 'Puck' sounds well". And so it was. As you can imagine, 'Lu' became 'Luck'.
After thinking twice, Fu and Su decided to stay in China.

RE: nicht schiessen

Paramount with somebody holding a revolver is 'nicht schiessen'
while with a revolving door it would rather be 'nicht schliessen'

RE: Blooming restrictions on messaging people!

These are the circumstances that would entice you to change your age on CS.

RE: the planet is flat

Enough yes-men to create a flat-earth-society here.
Just wait ... There IS a flat earth society:

RE: Why Are There So Many Mass Shootings?

An Irish style pub culture could take away much of the grudge and short circuit the hatred that lead to many of the mass killings.

RE: Which way do you communicate…most with others?

E-mail works fine in an informal one to many type of communication.

Written letter: last one over 20 y ago,
Typed letter: 20th century relic for formal communication,
Fax: the hype of the 1980's
Younger generations use Whatsapp

Seems like face-to-face is there to stay

RE: Which alcoholic beverage do you prefare?

cheers

Best joke on the thread

rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

RE: A wild party

Would that be experimental research or theoretical research, given that both are equally scientific.

RE: AI and DEEPFAKE

Try clicking the pic symbol underneath the post.
It does work in my browser.

RE: AI and DEEPFAKE

Of course ! Ever since the Kremlin has taken over the White House, it's obvious that the past can be changed.

RE: AI and DEEPFAKE

Deepfake requires texture mapping of the facial characteristics of the target person on the impersonator. You also need a decent voice imitator, if not recorded phrases of the target may be used to concoct whatever text you want to produce.

Any video may be used as 'evidence' in the background. Is this AI? Depends on your definition of AI. There's probably more AI involved in estimating the probable impact of deepfake than in producing it.

In 1938 Orson Welles ran a radio play 'The War of the Worlds' where martians invaded the US. Many citizens not listening from the start, mistook it for reality and the radio station received hundreds of phone calls of radio listeners in plain panic.

Guess in the age of deepfake, we need more convincing 'evidence' that something is real... until we disbelief reality and persist believing it's deep fake. There's still people around disbelieving Americans ever landed on the moon in 1969 and the early 70's - almost half a century before the term 'deepfake' was coined.

RE: Why do you dislike gambling?

You can't beat the House.
If you found an edge, you would be expelled from the casino.

RE: Do you react differently - depending on your culture?

Many European countries lived under foreign rule for centuries. Reacting differently, depending on the person you are facing is deeply encrusted. Even after the empires have gone, imperial knee jerk reactions keep showing up. Better to remain vigilant.

RE: Let's play numbers...

Pi ?

RE: Attraction...

Thanks for the concerto. The Queen Elisabeth competition for violin just ended

RE: In physics, energy

Energy can also be converted into matter. Rather into matter and anti-matter, if that matters to you. It does require a high energy (gamma) ray to do so; about 1.02 GeV gets the job done.
Nature and the almighty don't like us to be creators unfortunately (the utmost admitted is being creative). The positron (anti-matter) so carefully created tends to quickly annihilate producing high energy gamma quantum again.

What´s the best country to find a date in the EU?

On his thread 'What´s the best country to visit in the EU?' Johnny claims "I've never been out of my village".
I might try something as "I have never dated somebody from another village". I got away with bigger lies than that one. (Can't beat Donald Trump, though).

What are your experiences in finding a date across the border?

RE: Age filters

The two sets of age limits are different in purpose. The visible set states the age group you want members to know. Quite a few people will fill out something 'socially desirable' there. The second set is implicit, limiting the age group you want to receive messages from. You cannot oblige people to be consequent with the prior public set of age limits. If they are inconsequent, they may be lying about their age as well...

RE: Do you consider yourself a European or a citizen of your country?

Whether you can rent, open a bank account and are liable and beneficiary to social security depends much on the time horizon and your employment situation.
For a longer term stay without definite time horizon, you normally need to apply as a resident. Real estate agencies normally require an application form (not the residency card as this may take time) to allow renting. While you are in a B&B or a hotel, you are still considered a 'tourist'.
During 4 years I have been a resident in a neighbouring country. Some family members are both residents and citizens in another EU member state. Yet they are allowed to keep their Belgian citizenship ans so do their children, born abroad.

RE: Quantum mechanics

But I do remember that Werner Heisenberg's uncertainty principle highly disfavors jumping to conclusions.

RE: Quantum mechanics

First axiom of Quantum Thought (that 's before economic nitwits perverted the QT acronym to 'quantitative tightening'):
Those who understand don't use a forum to continue a discussion
Those who don't fill up the thread with utter nonsense.

RE: Bohr vs Bohm

Niels Bohr and David Bohm are a generation apart.

Bohr and Einstein were from the same generation, differing only little in age. On some occasions they met, discussing quantum physics (Albert Einstein initially was skeptical about it) and relativity.

David Bohm wasn't even born as Albert Einstein published his general theory on relativity in 1912. In formulating his views, he could rely on the complete understanding of quantum mechanics as described by Erwin Schrödinger who was awarded the 1933 Physics Nobel Prize for that. It may have impressed and inspired David Bohm, who was a teenager at that time.

RE: Exchange Spanish lessons for German lessons

Other than proximity, some details probably need clarification for this proposal to be successful:
The instruction language:
- German for German courses, Spanish for Spanish courses require a more than basic level to start with.
- Spanish for German courses, German for Spanish courses is quite a challenge, unless one of the parties involved is highly proficient (and doesn't need the course anyhow).
- English for both: OK that may be a level playing field, yet sufficient understanding can't be taken for granted.
