If someone says I love you, my response is usually a hug.
Not a side hug, "the heart directly facing theirs" hug.It is a universal language that goes beyond the
courtesy of giving a reply.I allow myself to feel loved.

I say to the OP,
some people are very reserved and I understand boundaries.Others light up a room, like the commenter above does.And you see who they surround themselves with on a regular basis are usually reciprocaters,

or quick learners.

The narcissist waits for the borderline to order. However, the borderline is not sure what to have. Thus, the borderline, influenced by the narcissist, decides to order whatever the narcissist is having and offers to pay for the narcissist's drinks. The narcissist then orders one of every drink in the bar on the borderline's tab. Not to be outdone, the sociopath leaves the bar with the borderline once the borderline is sufficiently drunk; sleeps with the borderline at the borderline's place; and leaves before the borderline awakens the next morning. Of course, upon rising to greet the new day, the borderline finds all personal and household valuables, including cash, credit cards, car, priceless, inherited, paintings, are gone. Feeling really terrible now (and very hung over), the borderline calls the narcissist's phone number for help - from a scrap of paper in the, now empty, billfold. However, upon hearing the borderline's story, with nothing left to offer the narcissist by way of money, a spontaneous good time, or even a free car ride around town, the narcissist makes a lame excuse to hang up the phone as quickly as possible...while also telling the borderline to lose the narcissist's phone number "pronto." "Ciao, Baby!"
