RE: Champions League Final...

I'd normally be the same and the other night before the game, I couldn't have cared less who won but then as the game went on, I found myself shouting for them. The United supporter in me hopes they don't win but at the same time I have liked and respected Di Matteo since he was a player and since Bayern knocked United out a couple of years ago, I wouldn't be too disappointed if Bayern got beaten.

RE: Champions League Final...

third i mean doh

RE: Champions League Final...

I don't think it will be an issue for Arsenal because I can see them finishing fourth but I'd say Newcastle and Spurs are hoping that Chelsea get beaten in the final although they probably wouldn't admit it.

RE: Champions League Final...

To be fair to Chelsea, it mattered to them tonight. I quite enjoyed watching it to be honest. Okay so Valdes had very little to do particularly in the second half but it was great defending by Chelsea. I suspect if Barcelona had been more adaptable and used the wings more, they might have come away with a result.

RE: The FA Premiership 2011/2012 Part 2

Thats true. Newcastle are playing very well this season and will be well up for the City game. Ben Arfa and Cisse are in particularly good form at the moment. Having said that, I don't think United should go into the City game looking for just a draw. They will want to avenge the hammering at OT earlier in the season and I think if United fail to take all three points at Eastlands next Monday then it still won't be easy. Swansea at OT and Sunderland away will be tough games. All credit to Everton to Sunday, they never stopped fighting but United should have killed the game off at 3-1.

RE: Champions League Final...

Chelsea played a stormer tonight. Particularly Petr Cech and Frank Lampard. It was a great piece of skill of Ramirez too to chip Valdes like that. I couldn't believe it when Messi missed his penalty. I'd love to know what the odds were for Chelsea to go through and for Torres to score the winning goal. I'd say that was well worth putting a tenner on.

I don't think anyone gave them a prayer after Terry got himself stupidly sent off but they defended well despite going down to ten men and rode their luck. I thought they thoroughly deserved the win but I can't see them getting past Real Madrid or Bayern Munich when they have four players suspended for the final.

RE: Disgraceful!!

I don't think it was discraceful either. It would be if the balliffs beat them up but they didn't. They physically removed them from the house but it was obvious that they weren't going to leave the house of their own free will. They said that they tried to reason with the banks the day before they were evicted but to be fair they had two years to reason with the banks. They were business people who speculated on property. They knew the risks when they agreed to use their house as collateral. They obviously dramatised it for the cameras. They have 18 other properties though so they are hardly stuck for a few bob. I have some sympathy for them losing their home but they are in a far better position than a lot of people and like i said, they knew the risks when they used their family as collateral.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

I wouldn't say defensive. More like loyal to the team i support. Nothing wrong with that though. You rarely hear Alex Ferguson or Kenny Dalglish saying a bad thing about their players. I'm not saying i'm as knowledgeable about football as either of those too but I'm a bit like that as regards to being loyal to United. Short of committing murder, I'll defend them to the last. I suppose you could say United is my religion. I am a football fan but United will always come first to me. Maybe i do wear rose tinted glasses sometimes but hey, thats just me.

Young is getting a bit of a reputation as somewhat of a diver and I do think its wrong because it could cause him problems when he does get fouled. His reputation could precede him and decisions might go against him because of that. Thats my main concern.

My point was most players dive or go over a bit too easily sometimes to get a penalty. Unfortunately it has become part and parcel of the game. This isn't a new thing either. It has been in the game for as long as i can remember. Drogba has been doing it for years and he spent more time on the floor against Barcelona the other night than he did on his feet. Even Gerrard and Lampard have done it. So what i am trying to say is Young has come in for a lot of stick over the last few weeks for going over too easily but its not really fair to single out one player and not the others.

RE: United not only most valuable team in Football, but in all sports!

Probably not but at least United are still winning trophies. There are a few teams spending big money that won't end up winning anything this season.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Ah he's in good company with Graeme Souness, Roy Evans, Gerrard Houllier and Rafa Benitez then.

Speaking of Dalglish, apparently in a recent interview regarding Andy Carrol, Kenny Dalglish said "I don't know whats wrong with him, he scores all the time in training."

That could have something to do with him playing against Liverpool's defence though...

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Did West Brom sack him? confused

I think there could be a major upset in that game on Sunday.

Liverpool might actually win grin

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

I hear Roy Hodgson has warned his West Brom defenders not to mark Andy Carroll at Anfield on Sunday.....just in case they get booked for timewasting.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

It wasn't. It was a five second video showing the incident from one angle and one angle only. Any incident can be intrepreted in the wrong way if its only shown from one angle. At least the videos i posted were from more than one angle. Thats why they have more than one camera at every football ground. One angle can't be conclusive.

Anyway I'm getting bored with this. My point still stands. Yes, he went over too easily but there was contact. More is being made of this than any other incident whereby a player went over too easily including the one where the wind changed and Andy Carroll fell over against Newcastle. As Gary Neville said last night before the Arsenal v Wigan match, a lot of players exaggerate. Even top players like Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and Edin Dzeko. Its an epidemic in the game and to single out one player when lots of others are doing is laughable not to mention hypocritical. I'm not saying its right and I am not defending anyone who dives or even exaggerates. This is not a new thing though started by one United player. It has been happening for twenty years or more and until they introduce video technology (from more than one angle obviously) then its never going to change.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Who was Carroll kicked by against Newcastle? The Invisible Man?

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Exactly. I take the piss out of Wenger for his selective eyesight but he wouldn't be doing his job as the Arsenal manager if he didn't defend his team. Every manager does it.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

No, you didn't but I don't understand how you can stick the boot into Young when what Carroll did against Newcastle was actually worse because there was no contact whatsoever when he went down.

I'm saying Young made a meal of it. By the letter of the law, Clark kept his foot in and Young tripped over it. There was contact so in my opinion it was a penalty. My whole point is he went over dramatically and people are acting shocked when other players do it all the time too. Since it happened yesterday, anyone would think he was after killing someone by the way everyone is condeming.

Fine. Condemn him if you want to but lets be consistent and condemn the others too.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

I probably am but we are all biased sometimes, Vinny. If you support one team, you can't be totally impartial all the time. Actually I think you make a very good point there. Particularly because of the last few games, Young is getting a bad reputation and that could work against him in the long run. Thats what I would be worried about. Kinda like the boy who called wolf.

Having said all that, I hear managers, fans, pundits and even players sticking the boot into Young when some of their own players have done the exact same thing.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Giggs, Rooney and Ferdinand only cheat off the field, not on it scold tongue

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Oh i agree. I do think it will be very difficult to stamp out though. I mean it does kinda annoy me that he is getting a reputation for being somewhat of a diver because he is a good player and it detracts from a great team performance.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Possibly laugh

I don't think it makes a huge difference in the grand scheme of things though. United won 4-0 not 1-0. We played well and I don't think there was any danger we were going to lose. I thought we won very convincingly.

RE: Mobile Phone Networks

The router is obviously in her kitchen so the further she is away from the kitchen the signal gets weaker. Its because it has to get through so many walls. They weaken the signal.

RE: Mobile Phone Networks

Tell her to get a signal booster. Vodafone sell them so I presume 3 do too. Basically it strengthens the signal all over the house.

RE: Whats your favourite sit com past or present ..........

Past - Friends. I would like to be Joey or Chandler.

Now - King of Queens.

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

He did make a meal of it but it was definitely a penalty since there was contact.

RE: Timewasters

RE: Timewasters

To be honest, I don't get guys who stand up girls. I think its very bad form to not at least text her and tell him he can't make it for whatever reason. Thats just common courtesy. Then I suppose some people just have a weird sense of humour and get off on playing their date for a fool.

I Agreethumbs up

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Still United in my opinion. Bad result tonight but I think Wigan were due a win. They have played well lately but have gotten some bad decisions given against them and United underestimated them tonight and got punished for it. I reckon that result will show United that we can't afford to take any team lightly from now until the end of the season. It might just be the kick up the backside we needed.

I had to laugh at Mancini's feeble attempt at mind games after they beat West Brom though. He said he thinks United will still win it. He's right but I don't really think he believes that. He's just saying that in the hope United will get too cocky and slip up again. Not going to happen though scold

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Liverpool won a game and Carroll actually scored? wow

Am I seeing things? confused

RE: FA Premiership 2011/2012

Technically he has a slightly better record than Hodgson. Hodgson managed Liverpool for 31 games, won 13 of them, drew 9 and lost 9 giving him a win percentage of 41.94%.

Kenny so far in his second stint at the club has managed them for 66 games, won 31, drew 17 and lost 18 giving him a win percentage of 46.97%.

I'd give Kenny til Christmas and then if things have improved by then, get someone new in.
