RE: Good News - How often do we get it?

News is different depending on where you are in the world. Most people aren't multilingual so don't appreciate the difference. The same events are reported with a different bias depending on the leanings of the government of the country you are in. Now, because of social media, you tube, WhatsApp, messenger and the like, we are beginning to get short films of actual events and therefore, we occasionally get nearer the truth.
Clearly one can never actually trust the press because ,it will always have a bias and often not even to be taken with the proverbial pinch of salt.
Normally, I don't do news but, because the problems in Venezuela affected friends of mine, I followed recent and past events closely, in three different languages (four, if you count American English as another language) in five different countries. Some of the social media stuff was so horrific I couldn't watch it and the bits I saw before I clicked it off live on with me when my mind is quiet.
The world doesn't know even one percent of what happened there, or why, most of you will never know, even less care and, even if you did know and care, like me, there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.
This being so, what is the point of following the sensationalized, biased fiction we call news? People follow it because they want their version to be the truth and I'm now wondering why I even bothered to get into this in the first place, so I'm gone. Bye Bye happy fictional Easter one and all.

RE: The truth........ Hurts......

Sorry, my mistake, I'll go away now!

RE: The truth........ Hurts......

Excuse me for dropping in, I was just passing and saw you were here Snooks. Did someone piss in your cornflakes or was it really the truth? If it is the truth then it should be helpful not hurtfull, there being no such thing as a bad situation only one's attitude towards it, that could include zips as well.

3 years is nothing. I married at 23, my wife was 17. We were together for forty three years and parted amicably.

Well done Rainbow, not many can do without it. I dropped it when I almost put of a squash match to watch something. Then I realised it was dominating my life. Got into rows then with my ex wife because I'd rather work in my office than sit with her glued to the idiot box.

Can the press be trusted to give us an unbiased, truthful report on anything?

I didn't know that, thanks for the input.

RE: if you could ??????

I'd go with Dolphin or Orca, we can already fly without the aid of an aeroplane. (Sorry, my English is UK spelling)

RE: If Bed Bugs Are Named Because They Are Found In Beds

Captain John Smith described this unattractive insect in 1624: “A certain India Bug, called by the Spaniards a Cacarootch, the which creeping into Chests they eat and defile with their ill-sented dung.” The Spanish name, however, is cucaracha, which the English, with usual disregard for foreign languages, converted to cockroach.

RE: Im so fed up of being single

Wow, I'm impressed, you're not related to Hercule by any chance? KNenagh Poirrot?

RE: It all boil's down too..!

Er, s'cuse me but is that not a personal attack? Putting a little guy laughing after doesn't excuse it and if we're going to be that picky about a typo you might want to check your grammar.

RE: Is gun control the solution to these unspeakable tragedies?

De rien jollie fille.

RE: Trump has spoken and believes the UK citizens would be as safe as US citizens IF

They're never there, their main thing is themselves joyriding picking up people for traffic offenses. In my personal experience, police I have had to deal with in the UK were either dishonest or indolent or both. That's just my experience and I trust it doesn't apply to the entire force.
As far as guns are concerned, as I said elsewhere the problem is IDIOTS with guns and a lot of them seem to be wearing a blue uniform and driving a jam sandwich.

RE: Is gun control the solution to these unspeakable tragedies?

Should have directed that at str8withu. Haven't quite got the hang of this yet.

RE: Is gun control the solution to these unspeakable tragedies?

You are so very right Sir and have saved me getting up on the soap box. Well put.

RE: Is gun control the solution to these unspeakable tragedies?

The underlying reason is not gun control, but control. The authorities do not want an armed populous so that they have absolute freedom.
There's lots of evidence, in the UK for example, more people are killed by armed police than are killed by armed criminals. They even murdered the British Quick Draw champion when he got drunk one night and practiced in his garden. You'd have thought they'd know who he was hey? Er, before they shot him that is.
However, is it really a bad thing? I have had guns all my life but I don't hunt, and I must admit I don't even club shoot anymore. The reason being, while I was changing a target the last time I was there, having called 'Regarder' during a lull in the shooting as is customary. I turned around to see a Gendarme playing with my loaded revolver which I had left on its mat at my post. 'it's okay' he said, 'I'm a gendarme.' To which I replied, 'that does not exempt you from club rules, put my weapon down before you kill someone!' His lame response was the he had never seen such a weapon and wanted to look at it. Huh! It's idiots with guns which are the danger!
The hunters here in France are just the same and on one occasion in the summer of 2002 they actually shot me, in my own field while I was out noisily cutting weeds with a back pack weedwacker. The machine itself and the usual safety gear largely protected me fortunately. But if you are the license issuing authority, how can you tell that a person with a clean record is not going to turn out to be an idiot? The other point is that an unimpeded bullet will travel a long way and a high caliber round could end up killing someone a mile or two away if fired from a high point. A couple of years ago we had a 19 year old lad shot in the head while out jogging with his girl on a Sunday.
So, no I don't think gun control is necessarily the solution to these tragedies but it would help! Put it this way, If gun control would save the lives of your partner and two of your children this year, would you support it?
