Why did I even think that far ahead - sobering thought to think I am at the end of my 50's - but hey better than the the alternative?

Not heard of the other one, but my br-in-law went to see Wolf Creek 2, sounds good, pretty violent thriller but John Jarrad the Aussie actor absoloutely nails that character which is quite scary

Glad I didn't see that movie before I backpacked around Oz 27 yrs ago!

Hi pedals I get your point, but seriously, that is unhealthy, he looked like someone who really was dying and that can't be good for you - unless you are a Dior catwalk model who hasn't eaten anything but lettuce leaves in the last 5 yrs!

That is so true Micky. A good friend of mine, her husband was an alcoholic, (diagnosed) and in the end on a 'disability' pension (he died before the age of 60). He did lay off the drink sporadically but ..... when he wasn't drinking he would go to the pub, drink squash and play the pokies!

And as we all know you can do a helluva lot of dough in half an hour - a lot more than you could spend on booze, not that I am condoning it, but as you say, he just swapped one addiction for another?

Good movie, early days of the AIDS virus, lack of knowledge, paranoia.

Based on a true story. How the hell did he loose so much weight for the movie??

The whole healthcare debate is very complex and there is not easy answer.

Smoking is bad for your health, we all know that now, but as my in laws told me, she went to the doctor as a young women and wanted to loose weight, the doctor told her to take up smoking! Also, I believe they used to send smokes to the forces in combat zones in the second World War?? So I think it is unfair to expect people to stop now in that age bracket.

And yes, isn't it easier to get addicted to than heroin, and as hard to give up?? As far as that goes everyone is different, I know people who have said, 'When I have finished that packet - that is it" and after 30 odd years they did it.

Then there are the people who have tried everything, nicotine patches, cold turkey, hypnosis and it still doesn't work for them?

And the Govt is addicted to the revenue it gets from cigarettes so it is a Catch 22 situation? If most people stopped smoking, they would have a huge hole in revenue to fill somehow?

All in all, I think the law is a good idea. I think the public got sick of 60 mins/Current Affair paying ridiculous amounts of money for an 'exclusive interview' with some low life serial killer or whatever?

Got a feeling he got away with that cos he was just slammed into Guantanamo Bay, no legal rep, no charges, foreign country, think it might not even be a 'court' as such?

Think he still has a legal case going on with that situation.

Not sure exactly how the law works AA but from what has been said by the Feds recently the money that came from her book "My Story" (or something) went thru' her sister Mercedes. So they want to avoid that situation as well so I am guessing maybe cos she is an Australian citizen and Ch 7 is Aus too?? Don't know just surmising?

As far as if the court was held in Australia ..... is irrelevant, it happened over there and I think we all know that things don't always go by the booK?? No CCTV footage? Language difficulties? Maybe didn't have the right amount of errrrm 'look the other way money'?? Who knows? It's a lot of 'she said' 'they said'.

That's the thing - if she tells HER story, the Indonesian customs/police won't be involved, get to have their say in that????

That's where you went wrong Micky! I had it sussed when I was still in High School - I want to travel, and if I get married, have a mortgage and kids that's not likely to happen, unless I marry someone who is a Microsoft top Exec which would have been pretty difficult cos the internet hadn't been invented then

I had a plan, did languages at school/college, got a job in Spain first up and never looked back.

Had the most fantastic 20's, travel, money, lovely men to share my life with. Soooo glad I did it then cos once you have kids, that put an end to my travels

But I wouldn't change them for the world. Hope to do more travelling but work is getting in the way

It is loosing its appeal for me too Micky. Never been there, had chance to, but if I go on holiday or visiting another place, I want to feel safe? I am a person who respects other cultures and countries but I don't want to be looking over my shoulder all the time.

Maybe it's an age thing, when I was younger I did the maddest things in Europe travelling, or they seem mad now!

My point is I want to go on holiday to rest, enjoy, see places and it doesn't matter how cheap it is I want to feel that I am safe and will come back home. Boring I know but don't need that kind of excitement, had enough in my misspent youth

I think that is why the Feds went after ch 7, it IS a crime in Aus to profit from crime so they are trying to prevent any 'offshore' deals which would take it out of Aus jurisdiction?

This is all fairly recent times legislation, but honestly if it was say that nut job who murdered all those people in Tasmania (can't think of the name of the place, the ex-convict place), would you feel the same if he was on TV and paid for an interview? And how about the families of his victims having to watch a ******le like that getting richer from talking about the death of their loved ones.

Maybe same for families whose kids are having probs with dope?? What do you think they might think about all this??

1. I think Ch 7 are wrong and playing with fire by continuing to chase her/discuss with her the possibility of her giving an interview?? It is putting her at risk of being yanked back to prison for breaching her bail conditions. She should just walk away - the Indonesians have one hand on her shoulder until 2017??

2. Would we hear so much if she wasn't a young and pretty female?? If she was a 50 odd yo ordinary aussie we wouldn't hear boo about her?

And I don't think she should profit in any way - haven't heard anything reasonable that would make me believe she - or her family knew about that stuff?

PHILOMENA - with Judi Dench and Steve Coogan (thinking woman's spunkrat?)

Liked the movie - coming from an Irish background I could identify with the character Philomena although there were many times I wanted to shake her, she was a lovely, simple, uncomplicated lady with a devotion to her faith that is hard to believe.

Very sad, based on a true story.

Most of my family are in the north, so not so affected. But had a friend who just got out of Plymouth in time, she headed off to her little place in Spain in the sun. Phew.

I've had a spectacular Sunday - locked myself in the house with the air con on full bore.

Daughter is moving back home in about a month so making way for her stuff. 3 bags of books to go to Lifeline for starters and numerous bags for the Salvos.

Just getting started. Where the hell does it come from
