There are many teachers who should not be let near children let alone have any influence over them.
Kids that age get worried enough about the news, misunderstandings and the usual social BS. They don't need a teacher deciding to do a real life experience of war with them.
When I was student teaching a boy got two teeth knocked out when he followed his father's advice about bullies backing down when you stand up to them.
Fear of litigation keeps schools from dealing with bullies sometimes as does burnout of teachers and staff and sadly, some teachers identifying with the bully.
There is prejudice everywhere. We all have some in us. I've had a lot to contend with in myself and still do sometimes.
Even within a "minority group" there is bigotry. I got a wake up call on being bigoted about black people with darker skin than me when my light skinned black birth mother said that at least I was not as dark as my father.
Your generosity has helped CRS and our partners feed more than one million Haitians, provide shelter to more than 250,000 people, conduct about 70,000 outpatient hospital consultations, provide more than 10,000 people with short-term employment, and offer protection and education to thousands of vulnerable children.
The first anniversary of the earthquake is a day to remember loved ones lost, homes destroyed and lives changed. It is also a day to reflect on the difference a year has made for the people in Port-au-Prince. Because of your generosity, the Haitian people have been given a chance to recover and rebuild their lives.
Life for many Haitians before January 12, 2010, was one of abject poverty. CRS is committed to working with the people of Haiti to build back better than before and lead their own communities to a brighter future.
"We are working with the Haitian people now and will be for years to come," says CRS President Ken Hackett. "Our fundraising for Haiti has passed the $90-million mark. We are grateful for such generosity, and our donors should know that we will spend all of this money, and much more, helping the people of this devastated country."
These people are not writing a check and demanding some other organization spend the money the way they want it spent. They are out there in the villages with the people in need. There is no reason to expect the situation is any different with the Schools and Churches they are talking about building. $90,000,000 is more than many countries have contributed to the relief effort.
There is much I personally don't care for about the Catholic church but I have to give them credit for what they have done.
The population is about 80% Catholic according to the CIA World Fact Book. I'm willing to accept there is a domestic desire for churches to be built.
Did you read the link I posted telling what they had done to feed, house and care for people? They were one of the first groups working towards getting basic care to people.
Haiti is primarily a Catholic country. Isn't at all possible that the people would want Churches to go along with the housing and health care facilities that CRS supplied?
How many thousand people would have died without their aid?
Not every group is pure goodness but not every group is pure evil. Give then credit for the good they have done.
Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with more than two-thirds of Haitians living on less than a dollar a day. Haiti's poverty is exacerbated by the needs of a large population and by political and socioeconomic instability. The dire situation in Haiti was worsened by a 7.0-magnitude earthquake on January 12, 2010. About 230,000 people died, and nearly 2 million Haitians were displaced. In addition to regular programming in Haiti, Catholic Relief Services has committed to a 5-year plan to aid the Haitian people in recovery from the earthquake.
Then why did you ask about my satisfaction with the amount religious groups were giving to help with disaster relief?
My statement was about prejudice on these forums. Look at the amount of hatred thrown at Christians and Muslims alone. Then look at the bigoted views based on political leanings, race and gender.
As far as any charity goes I was taught to check into how much money went to help the cause and how much was spent on salaries and administrative costs.
My statement wasn't about charitable contributions made by religious groups it was about prejudice on CS forums. The hate that gets spewed over faith, politics, gender country of origin and other factors.
Like anyone or any group there is going to be variation in how much a religious organization gives, how they want the money used and how effective they are.
My mother is a UU right to the core of who she is but she gives monthly donations to the Salvation Army because she sees them as being genuine about real help for people in need. She does not have anywhere near the respect for the American Red Cross.
RE: Are there any REAL women on this site?
There seem to be some very nice women here in your age range.Everyone gets messages from scammers. I'm "not looking" but I hear from them too.
Play some of the word games on the forums. It's fun and there are nice people that are regulars on them.
