I hadn't even thought about people checking each other out on the site I was thinking more of the outside, non-net world. Stores, gas stations and the like.
I was not raised with guns and had my doubts about dating a gun owner based on the attitudes I was raised around.
I ended up learning to safely handle firearms and to shoot quite well. Much to my liberal parent's distress I was even given a 9MM pistol as a birthday present by my father in law last year.
Every right comes with responsibility though. Some people take those responsibilities more seriously than others.
Sorry but that was just too painful to watch. Why didn't they use real people instead of that annoying computer generated animation?
I don't believe in the idea of the Rapture but I would love to know how you can say with such authority that the little round head cartoon man is right.
In matters spiritual I have my beliefs but I don't pretend to know any absolutes on the subject.
Maybe he meant Moonie. Have your mother and father been making converts for the Unification Church?
The dude is waaaaaaaay too far over the top to be real. Someone is playing a joke with these posts or it is someone trying to make Obama supporters look like idiots.
Which ever it is they are doing a good job of it.
What I don't understand is why doesn't Connecting Singles deal with him?
Should we take all of the silverware out of the lunchroom too based on that argument?
We do keep an eye out for problems with the children including signs of mental illness.
For the record most people with a mental illness do not act out against others.
I wouldn't want to see a kid bringing a hunting knife into one of my classes but the scout tool would have been a good show and tell item and a good opening for a talk about being careful of knives when you use them.
If I were to restrain a child who was hitting another there would be an investigation. There would be a good chance of a law suit from the child's family.
If I didn't, there would be an investigation. There would be a good chance of a law suit from the other child's family.
I think people are programed to think of the elderly as being a burden or useless. It is a form of sanctioned bigotry.
I was raised around many admirable older people. I spent lots of time with my Grandfather and still do when I can. In my parents church I was allowed to hang out with a group of fierce "little old ladies" Who got things done. They were my heroes.
Ageism is just as any other sort of bigotry and one that we will all face if we live long enough the way things are going with current attitudes.
I wish Grace was still alive. She'd be the one to tell you how to fund raise. She was a terrier when it came to getting money. She would not hear the word no.
This sounds like some of the woman's committee statements in the Unitarian Universalist Church I grew up in.
They would talk about what they wanted to do then do nothing.
There were a couple of women in their 80s that would just go ahead and do what ever they thought needed to be done and say what ever they thought needed to be heard. They did more in a week than the talkers did in five years.
I've sat in the meetings listening to the planners go on and on about what they wanted to do someday and I've had to go at a dead run to keep up with women almost seventy years older than me making things happen.
Talk is fine but all it's only more talk without action.
I'd take it a step further and say it is how we change the future of others as well. It is very easy to say I WANT MINE and ignore the person next to you.
I've seen times when the application of simple human respect would make a huge difference in a situation.
Our actions do make a difference. Some people only think of that in terms of making a cash donation or going to a protest. They forget how important it is to honor the dignity of others even when you may have trouble seeing the dignity in that person.
Check out how some people treat the waitstaff in a restaurant or the cleaners in an office for an example of how it isn't done.
I'm far from perfect on that. I can be very classist if I don't watch myself. If I stop trying though I lose big time.
How do you feel about someone NOT of your gender preference checking you out
