I think solar and other renewables will be developing very fast in the near future and they have the chance to overcome nuclear energy but only when people agree and want to join the trend.
What do you think about nuclear energy? It is economically profitable for the first sight but how the Japanese example proved economy sometimes can show its black side. What about radioactive waste? How much we can produce? What about the future generations?
So, today's information - radiation is spreading into ocean. Is it funny? I do not think so. There must be any reliable idea to protect this spreading radiation.
I have not been here for long and can see this thread involved other subjects and emotions. It is not easy to deal with such a disaster. People do not know what to say and what to do. The radiation is spreading. The Japanese are fighting. Maybe are there any people, scientists for example, quantum ones or engeeners who may have any idea what should be done with this toxic fuel plant. The spent fuel is very hot and radioactive and generally needs 40 - 50 years to be cooled by water. What to do with it? The concrete alone could not help I think.
Kagero I have sent your SOS message to some media. It is terrible what is going on in some places of Japan these days. But it is so big disaster that it is very difficult to handle with it. Heve you got any cenral information (phone or mail) for those who are lost in their homes or cars and need help?
Yes, it is logical, the first they should cool the plant down. I hope they will be able to do it. I wonder how it is possible people have any regulations what to do when a nuclear plant has such breakdown. I know that is not the first malfunction of such a plant. I understand that this situation is really serious but nobody never has thought about possibility of naked nuclear rods and what to do with them?
The Japanese try to do their best to fight with their disaster. I hope they will succeed in cooling the plant and then they will be able to secure it appropriately. Maybe with concrete, I do not know. They are strong nation and I believe they will do it as soon as it will be possible. But it will cost them a lot - not only in money terms.
Yes, they found radiation in food and in tap water. But this is the consequence of nuclear plant disaster. People in the world warn against buying food from Japan as it may include radioactivity.
Thanks everybody who joined my thread. Japanese culture helps them to bear the situation. But any culure help nobody with shortage of food, water, shelter, and medicines. Have you read that people in hospitals, especially the older of the affected area have no medicines and help because there is no possibility?
I was very moved when I received mail from the man trapped inside his own car.
The best what we can do is send money for Japan or any other help, even warm words.
I agree with you. Japan is dependant on oil and on nuclear stations as they were the most productive for their narrow isle country. I wonder what they will do with the rest of such power plants after the tragedy is finished.
Yes, it is out control. Everybody in the world should think is nuclear energy the best way to produce power? Politicians and goverments should clear their eyes and look into reality. There was an era of nuclear energy, but I am afraid it has been finished now.
I sympathize with the Japanese. They have disaster and loose everything. Let us hope that the greater part of the world will not be responsible for previous mistakes of politics who put power plant near the seismic terrain.
Disaster the Japanese are experincing is so big that I can not find right words to describe it. Have anybody ever thought about such tsunami the effects it caused? Japanese, keep strong.
This is really hard times for the Australians. But I wish you and everybody experienced with flood to survive. Life is the most important. Things could be replaced in the future but life never.
Yes, there are many artificial additives in our food. For example sauces bought in shops - they are tasty but in my opinion unhealthy. The best are fruits and vegatables but when they come from healthy source. I do not buy very great in size vegetables - they may be full of nitrogen from fertilizers. Are there in your countries shops with healthy food?

How do you pay for it? The state insurance is enough or people have to pay private one in addition?
