So simple, Yet profound
A Trail, a link, a chain
Diversity of meaning
In each and everyone

Twilight Years 2
by Linda Hillier 26/02/2013
As my life moves into these years
I stop and reflect
my mind takes me back
to places I have been
to the poignant memories
so many places
so many thoughts
each one special
many things form us
when life kicks you in the face
when the weight of the world
seems too much to bear
dust yourself down, move on
take with you instead
the laughter , happiness and even pain
all experiences are good
the fault is how we relate to them
as time now growing short
marches relentessly on
I pause, reflect ,and try
to leave behind the hurts
so much still ahead
many things yet to do
I pause in my thoughts
then push them away,
future beckoning me ever on

Two things in life all share
birth marks the start
two babies side by side
let them share and grow
step back, watch the years pass
remark the changes to each
when death doth knock the door
one heaven bound; the other straight to hell

Adversity
by Linda Hillier 25/02/2013
Life is full of this
every day new paths appear
Which one to take?
Straight ahead maybe the clearest
or to right should my foot steps go
yet again maybe i need to follow the left
who knows?
each one will have its own challenges
different choices to make
so I blindly stumble each way
choices, choices so I choose
not knowing my fate
only that it will define who I am
Adversity
I laugh in ur face
knowing full well
I am as I am

Darkness by Linda hillier 24/02/2013
You wake up and ponder
maybe wonder whats the point
all u can see is the darkness
all u can feel is the world's despair
it envelopes you until u can't breath
u struggle to sit up and push it away
but all that surrounds you is darkness
How can u free yourself from its chains?
what will bring u a ray of light
we all have a guiding spirit to lead us
to take us back to the light
look around when u are in despair
think of others worse off than yourself
see the truth that stares us all in the face
just open your eyes and your heart too
and back into the shadows the darkness will fade

The Stallion By linda hillier 11/01/2013
edited on 21/02/2013
The Stallion
A thunder of hooves rang out as over the hill's brow
a herd of wild horses appeared
Leading them a jet black stallion
his mares close behind
spinning to a stop, he sniffes the air
then leds them to the babbling brook
Standing guard as they drink
while the foals buck and frolick
he climbs a small hillock
a truely magnificent sight
coat gleaming, long mane whipping
muscles rippling showing his power
he screams out in fury
as another herd approaches
then realising its his son
goes to meet them
they touch noses in greeting
together they stand guard over their herds
But men are approaching intent on capture
One dismounting and creeping up to the summit
signalling to the others they are there
they spread out lasso's twirling and gallop down
the stallions try to lead their mares to safety
the black tells his son, take the mares, its me they want
he pirouets and leads them a merry chase
many times he has done this
easily losing them in the foothills
not this day though as more men appear ahead
with a defiant scream he twirls to the right
shooting up a steep hill
don't worry one yells we have him now
he will have to turn theres an abyss ahead
on reaching the top the stallion launches into thin air
the men pull up looking over the edge nothing there
he has jumped to certain death rather than be caught
what a shame they think what a horse
sadness in their hearts they leave
little knowing that if as u jumped u twisted round the buff
there is a series of hidden ledges
leading slowly down to a faint path
that leads to the valley below
with a snort of joy he joins his son
what fun to again outwit mankind
here they can all hide there is all they need
from that day forth the black becomes a legend
a dream in mens minds
a story to be told around camp sites
some wonder though if he still lives
especially when mares are taken in the night
the rest laugh at them but we know
we know his secret, his hiding place and our lips are forever sealed

The Wolf by L. E. Hillier 15/01/2011
the soft breeze gently rustles through the leaves
brushing pass the sleeping wolf stirring its hair
then flits on its way to who knows where
the wolf stirs and comes awake sniffing the air
its time to go hunting but first a drink
the wolf slinks through the undergrowth
barely stirring a blade as he passes
quick look around as he reaches the brook
listens and smells the gentle breeze satisfied that all's well
he drops his head and drinks his fill
then pads away testing the air
suddenly he stills one paw in the air
listening intently he then crouches and inches forward
a sudden dash and snap of jaws
he eats his kill then back to his den
to settle down snug and contented
for tomorrow's another day come what may
