Eternitarian Soul (for Paloma)

Nacreous colours fill my senses
as the psiturism flows round me
touching the aeolian strings and
stirring the gossamer shroud

bringing ataraxia to my reverent
cosmogyral brings reminiscence
of days long gone by, yet I reach
my destination, my soul's safe haven

Trials and Tribulations

Just let your imagination take flight
pick words to paint your minds picture
there is so much in life to inspire us
a chance word or sentence that's uttered

Seeing a child crying rends one's heart
listening in silence to a woeful tale
the beggar sitting with his begging bowl
what horrors has he seen on his journey?

A millionaire unhappy for all his worldly goods
money and possessions can't buy real friends
the mangy Cur roaming scatting through the bins
while his lucky cousin lives a life full of plenty

We come into this world of ours yet none are equal
although we are all born naked, some have it all
while the majority will have to make their own way
at the end of the day, our judgement is how we lived

Gracious Beauty of Nature (my challenge)

The odoriferous scents wafted
through the window stirring
the tassel back and forth
looking out I see flowers

They festoon the garden
all shining and glistening
such gorgeous foliaceous plumage
creating hidey-holes and niches

The megalith is standing sentry
the musical notes of the harmonium
blending in with the bird songs
floats through the verdant garden

lush vegetation forms mystique shapes
Soon I will irrigate the rolling lawns
I stand unobtrusive, hidden from view
the backdrop of amethyst hills effective as

They make a frame drawing attention
to the utter loveliness of this mansion

Windermere

The clouds drift the azure skies
filling my soul wth deep content
I look out over the peaceful waters
the odd rowing boat passing by

Windermere, lady lake of wondrous beauty
glowing are your hills in sunlight
I look out over your mysterious waters
my heart sings a song of your enchantment

watching the birds as they swoop and soar
I imagine being one of you so wild and free
to travel your shores in the blink of an eye
and to sink into your waters so pure

Lake District (acrostic)

Languid days of Summer
Amber sun beams delight
King Fishers as they dart
Each one to its post.

Down by the river's edge
I watch, and listen-
See each one as it dives -
Then, back to its perch.
Resting there awhile
In the still silence
Calm waves gently lapping
Tranquil sounds abound

Tick Tock

Time passes slowly
its near middle of night
witching hour approaches

outside all is quiet
seeming not to breathe
silence deep not sinister

the moon peeks out
casting long shadows
upon the lush lawns

this is a time for reflection
as one day draws to its close
another one is starting up

I wander outside
sit on the swing
and gently sway

listening to the sounds
night birds are singing
magical notes rise and fall

the murmur of the brook
adds to their songs
night scents abound

I hear the church clock
it is striking midnight
I breathe in the tranquillity

let myself drift away
pleasant thoughts
fill me with delight

carrying me afar
its times like this
that I feel at peace

what joys will it bring?
I am open to all
tick tock goes the clock

Where Are You

I blazed a path through the planets
searching, looking for the one
who would capture my heart

I left Mars and Jupiter far behind
as further and further I travelled
seeking for you high and low

through the stars and comets
passing by the milky way
no not here I must travel on

I am looking for my other half
so that I can be complete
somewhere out here in space

you are waiting for me
when at last we meet
on some distant planet

our hearts will then unite
beating together to our song
you know the one all lovers sing

some place in this universe
we will dance a stately reel
our lips will meet in a kiss

and the whole of existence
will join in celebrating
as together we live and love on

The Haunted House

We arrived at last deep in the night
your dark grim facade faced us
seeming so hostile very unwelcoming

I shuddered as we went inside
it was dark and dank and so icy
hideous shapes under the covers

dim light flickering and fading
some squeals and rustles
pat of feet red eyes peeking

my trembling got worse
as deeper in we went
thick dust lay every where

the wizen old lady
gave a hideous cackle
as if she was full of evil

she lead us upstairs
a vast chamber we entered
tiny fire flickering in the grate

this was to be home?
icy fingers down my spine
hair starting to stand on end

shadows moving every where
short and long reaching out
clutching, grasping at me

I see the dagger striking
the pain is so immense
blood spouting out

I am mortally wounded
other murdered souls join me
in this house of deadly horrors

You Think You're The Best?

so you think you are the best
something rather special
you flick back your hair
as you give me the eye

flex a muscle or two
drawing attention
to your fine physic
wash board stomach

a handsome face
heart melting smile
you have it all
or so you think

let me tell you pal
beauty is as beauty does
you leave me cold
with your dark heart

all you want
is to be in control
a flying fist
you feel in command

yes I know you
a little too well
I turn I am no worm
coward that you are

you walk out the door
saying manage on your own
well I'll tell you what pal
good riddance out you go

get out and stay out
don't darken my door
I don't need you now
for I have moved on

Bits and Pieces

A shrunken elderly man sits in his comfy chair
his mind wanders far back through the many years
he thinks back to the former ladies and that affair
one his wife discovered, what a fuss, so now he adheres

not that it matters much any longer, she is long gone
ah that affair, the thought brings a sparkle to his eye
she was surely a really bonny lass wearing her Saigon
startling eyes of dazzling blue, graceful as a butterfly

he chuckled at his thoughts and enjoyed his memories
even if he could not walk now unless he was assisted
no-one could take his thoughts, he still did his ditties
which made people laugh as they read what he jotted

a scholar of life he had been, a couple of books he had written
he had travelled to many far away and exotic remote places
he remembered a bushman, they had tea and he was bitten
by a swarm of ants, he shook them out and did up his laces

each one happy, with treasures that time could not dim
but most of all these days, he liked all the visits he got
from his daughter and the grandkids loved hugging him
beams all over their faces shining out like a kumquat

as day turned to night he thought to himself, I have lived my life
without squandering or wasting it, I took great pleasure from it
definitely shared plenty with others, really enjoyed the nightlife
what more can one ask at the end of the day when its time to submit

The Roads Ahead

Lifes paths scatter
some going uphill
others down the dale
they twist and turn
one turns left
the other right
will they meet?
who can say
stand at a folk
look each way
which is easy?
one sure to be hard
the choice is ours
so how to decide?
maybe shut your eyes
spin round and round
then giddy step forward
one thing is sure
no matter which
still you will arrive

troubled hearts

I feel your pain
it pours out
there is no shame
love is a gift
it is with us in all we do
in every breath we take
so, as you travel on
down life's path
reach out, let it in
night is always darkest
before the dawn of day
turn your face to the sun
let the light shine in
open your eyes
see the suffering
in every face you pass
take heart from it
move forward, move on
follow the light
let love shine on you
