Poetry shouldn't be a competition
Though I admit, it can be an obsession
For me I write because I enjoy
I find pleasure, as a child with its toy
Expressing feelings, which can be masked
Whether future hopes or past
The urge takes over, so I write
My aim explaining, always light
Some get heavy, that's their choice
But surely poets, use their voice
May not be a conversation of sorts
Respond-comments, imagination caught
Never means, we think the same
Word selection,can an image gain
Whether the same, or sometimes not
To share a poem, joins up hidden dots

About this poem:
I used to be amazed how people could read different things from a single poem........somehow that has recenty changed.......so I guess usually we join our own dots to the meanings of some......

If we could tell, what our future holds
Would we be happy, live a life bold
To fit our dreams, or would it confuse
Is it better to wait, unable to choose
Directions and steps, leading the way
No sad times allowed, only happy days
Surely boredom, would soon set in
A predictable life, could feel like a sin
Each day starts, with sunshine not rain
No need making plans, in a life of gain
Knowing how it ends, before it began
Accept without goals, nothing banned
Somehow I believe, it would never do
An actor on a stage, following cues
Just maybe our future, really must hold
Surprises to rattle, that give us a soul

Lush green, drips with dew
Halo of light, paints shiny hue
Dense darkness, sun explodes
On golden wings, morning rode
Lifting light, to flood the land
Sun wore halo, golden band
Surge of light, so rapid spread
From sky above, to nature's bed
Underfoot, where grasses spring
Skin tingles as moisture clings
Rushing water- musical tunes
Guides ocean, to rising dunes
Golden sand, meets golden sun
Circle a sea, as quick tide runs
Brings new life, upon a beach
Fingers of ocean, aim to reach
Paradise, meets turquoise sea
Home to few, gives life to free
Tiny inlets, with coves and bays
Nature secret- sand-bars lay
Secures harbour, few will see
Isolated location, its safety key
Hills that climb, from valley floor
Harbour entry, its hidden door.

About this poem:
The west coast harbour at the top of New Zealand remains safe from tourism, for many reasons.....Sand bars block the entry and few boats sail upon its waters......instead its raw beauty remains with a few historic settlements.....and tourists who found it, and never left, living side by side with locals......

What gives moments a special zing
Makes a difference, as heart sings
Instant attraction, between two
Friendship starts journey, on cue
Special flutters, deep inside
Stirred emotions, thoughts ride
Race ahead, without restriction
Rules made, now contradictions
In maturity, hidden voice warns
Youth race ahead, with joy born
Hopes trip over, spoken words
Too excited, for truth heard
Who'd deny, those special times
Passion runs free, crossing a line
New love, with heady emotions
Commonsense lost-inner commotion......

We can leave false clues
in hope to attract
The person of our dreams
especially if we lack
Skills that we dream of
shallow and unreal
And so in a lie
our future we can seal
Being ourselves,
may be boring to some
Yet changing the truth
means the liar becomes
A person who can never
relax and act free
Safe in ones own skin
means holding life's key
Simple is easy
each smile is a gift
Caring for another
gives a daily lift
But if you resent
each moment you spend
Giving your all
when your future depends
On someone not you
that makes you whole
Then you have missed
a true loving goal
That comes from sharing
all that you own
Not dividing your life
and other beds roam
Life becomes boring
stressful, filled with rain
You seek for real sunshine,
a true happiness gain
Love is unconditional
to give and not take
This....the reality
that true happiness makes.

Stillness coats the air....
navy mottled till light flares
Breaking through darkness....
silver lights, that caress
Feelings of silent peace.....
until night time, must cease
Bordering earth a pinkish hue
hints of sunset, give a clue
Closing down, as day completes
most creatures aim to sleep
Wait the stars and haloed moon
even a breeze, dare play its tune
Throughout the night, navy sky
smoothers action upon high
Darkness deepens as light is lost
waking dawn, will pay the cost
When light streams waking all
from the earth, night will fall......

Fleeting memories linger, of a special spring day
Cold winds had eased, summer was on its way
Did thoughts of sunshine, caused sudden smile
To see again, I'd eagerly drive many miles.
Was he watching-waiting, or just imagination
Did his eyes soften, caused by anticipation
That never before stirred, a beating heart
Walking towards you, stopped inches apart
Had a smile crossed your shocked face
into your stride he fell, matching pace
'You look lovely today, I had to say.
Before you passed by, hurried away.'
His voice so gentle, I was unable to reply
Looked into his brown eyes, instead sighed.
He was so dark-handsome, so very tall
Invisible threads between us, seemed to pull
His workmate appeared, came our way
Magical moments broken, that first day
But over the weeks, he seemed to wait
I'd park my car, then the silence break
Was we an odd couple, but never saw
Odd looks received, as he opened the door...
Of my parked car, close to where he'd stood
It seemed so natural, to question never would
Then came the day, he was not to be seen
Summer had ended, and what had once been
Was filed to memory, of times shared
Would I ever know, if like me he once cared.

Outcrops form tiny islands, in a sea
Swirling in life, proves it is free
Glistens in sunshine, foaming rough
Lovers of an ocean, cannot get enough
Every tiny island, unique in its shape
Character-size, mist sometimes drape
Resting place of birds, mammals of the sea
Exposed when tide runs, timing the key
Stepping stones in bay, cluster of rocks
Adds to coastal beauty, within heart-locks
Romantic memories, lining the shore
Breaking heavy swells, beating coast raw
Dreamers imagine mermaids, resting there
Looking out to sea, without living care
Captured in sunlight, shrouded by rain
Mystical image, the weather may tame
Shimmering beauty, as oysters pearl
Expel shards of light, as limbs unfurl
Across rough clusters, in beauty shine
Could the lonely figure, for lover pine
In stillness and sunshine, peace so real
Allows coastal scene, emotions to feel
Dramatic changes, only nature controls
Special memories, cherished by romantic souls

About this poem:
With the haze on the water, even looking through misty rain, we can still imagine a mermaid, just as mariners of the past.....shrouded by the mystique of the ocean.......NZ is a country you are never far from the sea, so we get chances daily of imagining Mermaids........
Though often these days they are local children swimming with man-made-tails.......LOL

Lovers hands touch, palm to palm
Fingers flex, send emotional balm
Gentle brushing motion, reminds
Stroking enlightment, that binds
Memories and dreams, hopes too
Of future journey, shared by two
Sense tension, intake of breath
Intimate thoughts, not as guest
Shared arms, as legs entwine
For this moment, you will pine
Passion height, leaves heady
When two lovers, are ready
Once out of sight, and touch
Missing presence, so much
Special actions, that show
Love on the boil, leaves glow

When does it happen, dropping the past
A passion in youth, from early time cast
So gradually things changed, until now
Now time to consider, when taking a bow
Life a whirlwind, of pleasure and joy
Any downside, could never annoy
Focus on the positive, nothing more
Always looking for next, open door
My subject was dance, in all forms
Missing for anytime, caused a storm
Sport may lead the way, in life
Other humans seek husband or wife
Life with pleasures, making each day
Select what we enjoy, along the way
So when does a passion, start to fade
Who picks the moment, decision is made
Or does it come slowly, we move along
Different pathways, sense nothing wrong
When the time is right, we can move on
Yet our past will never, be lost and gone
Needs change, and we are refreshed
Seek new horizons, not those left
Growth continues, whatever the age
Being ourselves, use a different gauge
When a thought, springs to life
We should be able, without strife
To enjoy and expand, each day
Merge with the past. in new ways

Special moments, attraction-change
From friendship, love joins the range
When deeper interest, passion ignites
Intimate eye contact, seems so right
Sharing important, love suddenly real
Two readily agree, relationship seal
Hesitation forgotten, heart takes lead
Head act truthful, unable to deceive
Relaxation together, as eyes meet
Once hidden feelings, aim to seek
Changes apparent, acceptance go
Surging unison, linking eyes glow.
Enlightened times, guarded love
Electrified needs, lights skies above
Intimate message,fired between two
Engulfs new-found-lovers, dreamy-hue
Visual-power-surge, acknowledgment-too
Instant changes, apparent between two
Gradual realization, acceptance clear
Actions loving, confirmation held dear
Journey completed, time must sustain
Shared commitment, if couple will gain
Special involvement, secure-unique
Confirmed a moment, with loving kiss.......

Cloaked in thick mist, wait dawn
Sunshine heats, so land is born
Gradual clearing, visually behold
Defined valley, kiwi farming gold
Where water lies, heavy mist covers
Dispelled by sunshine, protective lover
Keeps mystique, romantically alive
In sleeping darkness, life thrives
Inlet of harbor, river-valley-runs
Waiting dawn, when rays of sun
Engulfed by dense, ghost-like-shroud
Keeps land safe, later stands proud
A secret land, where floating mist
Wispy shimmers, as rivers twist
Waiting sunshine, summers day
When land revealed, in nature's way
