MYSTICAL MERMAIDS
Outcrops form tiny islands, in a sea
Swirling in life, proves it is free
Glistens in sunshine, foaming rough
Lovers of an ocean, cannot get enough
Every tiny island, unique in its shape
Character-size, mist sometimes drape
Resting place of birds, mammals of the sea
Exposed when tide runs, timing the key
Stepping stones in bay, cluster of rocks
Adds to coastal beauty, within heart-locks
Romantic memories, lining the shore
Breaking heavy swells, beating coast raw
Dreamers imagine mermaids, resting there
Looking out to sea, without living care
Captured in sunlight, shrouded by rain
Mystical image, the weather may tame
Shimmering beauty, as oysters pearl
Expel shards of light, as limbs unfurl
Across rough clusters, in beauty shine
Could the lonely figure, for lover pine
In stillness and sunshine, peace so real
Allows coastal scene, emotions to feel
Dramatic changes, only nature controls
Special memories, cherished by romantic souls

About this poem:
With the haze on the water, even looking through misty rain, we can still imagine a mermaid, just as mariners of the past.....shrouded by the mystique of the ocean.......NZ is a country you are never far from the sea, so we get chances daily of imagining Mermaids........
Though often these days they are local children swimming with man-made-tails.......LOL

It was a fashion statement here and I am sure elsewhere that young ladies and children sported shiny lycra fish tails.......though some could slip their feet out the end and walk rather oddly........
Bay Of Islands is as it says.....filled with small islands and a beautiful tourist designation, though the Hokianga Harbour with south and north heads at its entry, has high sand dunes I wrote about during the time I lived there, and that place heads my FB profile.......
Thank you Christian for the comment....Kathy
