We had a blast, the weather was absolutely perfect and the scenery (of course) was fantastic.
Not much of a turnout - only six of us (Myself & Jackson, Scottishlass, Indyfella, Daniel4021 and former CS member Heatherhoney) from an early guesstimation of 18 to 20 - but we all hit it off great.
The food was delicous - owing to the rather small turnout and the fact that we'd ordered food for a BIG turnout - we had both lunch and supper and Jackson and I will eating 'Buddy's Barbecue' leftovers until well into next spring. With barbecue beef, pork and chicken, 'tater' salad, baked beans, chips and homemade sassafras tea as well as other refreshments, we all pretty much ate until we nearly burst.
Our waterfight(s), while not spectacular, were nonetheless fun and "refreshing" and I discovered that Scottishlass is deadly with a supersoaker -- even while laughing so hard that she couldn't see straight! Frisbees and shuttlecocks filled the air (and littered the ground!) as our bodies tried to remember how they worked when we were young and invincible.
In the early evening, we took a trip down to the river and Daniel4021 and Scottishlass both took short canoe trips of about a mile down the beautiful and scenic Clinch river, personally guided by the Kansan.
Our guest of honor - our chihuahua, "Miss Patty Ann" - also had a great time, being well spoiled by all and even rode on Scottishlass' lap during the canoe trip.
Bunches and bunches of pictures were taken and will be posted as they become available. Heather has the ability to make a video from our still photos, so I guess it behooves all of us who took cameras to get the pics to Heather as soon as we can.
All in all, it was a fantastic time and those who couldn't make it sure missed out on something great. There's a good chance that we'll try it again next year, probably in July, but it'll be more of a potluck, rent-a-cabin for the weekend sort of thing rather than the 'self-catered' picnic we had yesterday just to lessen the stress and financial burden on the planners.
Darn, but ya'll sure missed out on some fun, fun times!
(Now, Anybody wanna' come over this morning and help me unload the Ramcharger?)
Claayer: OOoerr I wonder what happened to Bev.. She was really looking forward to going.
'Morning Claire!
Unfortunately, Bev had some unforseeable last minute troubles and couldn't make it. We talked to her on the phone yesterday morning and let het know that just because she couldn't make it this weekend, didn't mean that she couldn't come up some other time. She was sorely missed and, if we'd had a little more notice, I'd have volunteered to go down and pick her up myself! We consider her a dear, dear friend and you can bet that Jackie and I will be looking for an excuse to get her up to East Tennessee at the earliest convenience - Lord knows we still have plenty of picnic food - and maybe we can have a 'mini' get-together. Heather only lives about an hour away and Scottishlass is just 19 miles from us - might even be able to talk Indy into coming down if we promise to hide the waterballons from Heather.

hahaha
And Woooo I didn't realize Scottish lass lived so close. She's such a sweety.. tho I bet she was a demon with that super soaker..
darlynda: sorry i couldnt make it, please forgive me
Nothing to forgive, Darlynda. You were missed, but we all understand how it goes sometimes. Besides, I went right through New Tazewell week before last while on my way to Sneedville and didn't even wave, so I'll forgive you if you'll forgive me.
Heck, you're only about an hour away, so there's no reason that we can't try it again (on a slightly smaller scale) if you think you could tolerate us for an afternoon. Might even be able to talk Scottishlass into tagging along. Whatcha' think?
Well I made it back safely, gotta tell ya, it was a blast, maybe next year everyone will be better able to make it, just for everyone to know.. Norris Dam is a beautiful place to visit, but the most beautiful thing was the people I got to meet..
Good to see you made it home safely, Daniel. We were glad to see you there and Jackie says, thanks for the kind words - and what you said about her also applies to you.
Now that you know what our "back yard " looks like, you'll have to come back for a little longer float trip some time!
