starliteisbrite: You ALL have fun and remember to take LOTS of pictures....:)
Hi Cherie! I had hoped to get some "before" pictures so folks could see just how pretty the place is, but I got so entranced by it all yesterday morning that I completely forgot about taking pics.
We'll be sure to take a bunch of "during" pics!
Oh, and anyone who plans to attend - The 2 1/2 miles - once you leave the interstate - to the park entrance are absolutely gorgeous! But it's also a very winding, curvy and hilly road, so if you plan on taking pictures, make sure there's someone in the car to handle the steering wheel.
I mentioned the old Grist Mill museum in the other thread as a possible place to check out and another is Shady Grove Meadery, a small winegrower specializing in Honey wines and local traditional wines.
Of course I'm sure that we'll also be able to figure out other ways of entertaining ourselves as well. Whether through walking some of the many hiking trails in the area, tossing a frisbee, or just sittin' under the trees and shootin' the breeze.
One not so great note: I discovered yesterday that - since this is a State park - no alcholic beverages are allowed. Doesn't mean it'll be a total bust, just that we won't be able to have any "adult beverages" on site. (Sorry!)
Jackie and I still plan on making up a batch of Sassafras tea for everyone to try, along with having a bit of Sourwood honey for those who prefer their tea sweetened.
We're really looking foward to seeing everyone and having some fun in the Tennessee hills!
Where: Norris Dam State Park, approximately 20 minutes north of Knoxville, Tn. (I-75, exit 128, then south 2 1/2 miles on US Highway 441)
When: August 16th, 2008 The park is open from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M., so we'll eat whenever everyone gets there or whenever we feel like it. (I guess what I'm trying to say is that you can come for the whole day or for a few hours.)
Besides beautiful scenery and hiking trails there are several other sites to see close by. I'm planning on taking my canoe, so if anyone is up for a short float ('bout a mile or so) on the nearby Clinch River, I think we can arrange that as well.
I really think we can make this work and the more folks who can make it, the more fun it'll be!
As we get closer to the date, I'll make sure that everyone who is coming has mine and/or Jackson's cell phone #'s as well as specific directions to the site/picnic area. Lot's of fun for everyone! Ya'll come! It'll be a wonderful time in East Tennessee!
Dont_Look_Now: Yeah! Another one coming! Morning, Darlynda!
So far (I think) on this thread, we're up to SEVEN "definites" and a couple of "pretty sure I can's" with a couple of "maybe's" and one or two "darn its!"
