Dumb and dumber is a classic, hehe. Also love most Kevin Smith movies, especially Jay and Silent bob strike back. Simon Pegg is pretty funny too (hot fuzz, shaun of the dead, paul)

In my opinion so far AZZkat's list tops the bill.

I wish to add the four "Scary Movie" movies. They were really funny, fast-moving, and the disjointedness of their stories were not distracting at all.

I am all for visual humour, so I would also like to add Peter Sellers' movies of the Pink Panther.

Airplane series was mentioned already, and to it belongs The Naked Gun series as well as the Top Gun series.

Snatch was another favourite. Is it comedy? or is it action? I laughed myself silly at the character assassination through typology in that movie. Took me three times to watch to finally realize that there are at least two completely independently moving stories in it, and their tangental relationship is minimal. This was one smart movie that the highbrows and the lowbrows would equally call silly, only the geniuses would call it genius.

Oh, and the Great Lebowski or Great Liebowitz. Call me stupid, I grant I can't remember names.

I have seen quite a number of French Canadian movies, they were excellent. Their humour was subdued, but lively; reminiscent of Czech novels of the late sixties, early seventies.

A sleeper was "Careful", it was funny, but the wind went out of th sails of the story and the movie at around halftime.

There are a lot of Woodie Allen movies that nobody knows about. He still makes a movie a year, and they are each and every one funny and hilarious, or at least lines in them. I don't think he can write a realistic dialogue between husband and wife, and I can't understand how that can be possible, but there you have it.

A sleeper that made me laugh from beginning to end: Leningrad Cowboys. A Finnish movie, with subtitles, but there is little dialogue, so you can watch it.

KONTROLL. Hungarian move, English subtitles. It is funny as all-get-out to halftime, then it dies and becomes really bad -- you know, a melodramatic and forgettable and badly supported love story and a political murder drama.

Previously, I have blogged on my top 102 movies of all time;

your tastes in 'comedy' are much different than my own. Indeed, it is my belief that the words Will Ferrel & brilliant should never be used in the same sentence. Even with your choice of Jim Carrey films is much different than my own. Regardless, to each their own. Nonetheless, here are my favorite comedies films in order;

1. The Gods must be Crazy (2 is even better than 1)

2. Big (Tom Hanks)

3. Play it again Sam (Woody Allen)

4. La Cage au Faux (again 2 is even better than 1)

5. Heartbreakers (Sigourney Weaver & Jennifer Love Hewitt)

6. Sweet Liberty (Alan alda & Michelle Pfeiffer)

7. Bruce Almighty (Jim Carrey)

8. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (Matthew Broderick)

9. High Anxiety (Mel Brooks)

10. Liar Liar (Jim Carrey)

11. Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton)

12. Tootsie (Dustin Hoffman)

13. Raising Arizona (Nicholas Cage)

14. The Bucket List (Morgan Freeman & Jack Nicholsen)

15. Mrs Doubtfire (Robin Williams)

If somehow you have not seen any of these, I highly recommend them.
