HISTORY OF TIJI FESTIVAL IN MUSTANG:

FROM THE ANCESTORS Vajrakila (Dorje Phurba) or Vajrakumar (Dorje Shonnu) is a name of tutelary deity Yidam in Vajrayana Buddhism. This practice was popular in India and Nepal for long time. Buddhist master Padmasambhava, Vimalamitra and Shilamnju (Of Nepal) introduced this practice into Tibet in the 8th century AD. There were many lineages of Vajrakila practice in Tibet. Among them Khon tradition Kila (Phurba) is one of the major practice in Sakyapa school of Tibetan Buddhism. Padamasambhava instructed major steps in sacred dance of Vajrakila at Samye Monastery in Tibet.

Just when my life finds nowhere to go...

I just can't help myself posting this beautiful song as it is my reason to go further.
All that I have,all that I am.
I lay them down before you oh Lord.
All my regrets,all my acclaim.
The joy and the pain,I'm making them Yours.

Lord I offer my life to you, everything I've been through.
Use it for your glory.
Lord I offer my days to you, lifting my praise to you.
As a pleasing sacrifice.
Lord I offer you my life.

Things in the past, things yet unseen.
Wishes and dreams that are yet to come true.
All of my hopes, all of my dreams.
My heart and my soul,I'm making them Yours.

I hope and I pray, you will also be inspired by this!God bless your journey....

St. John's Eve/Bonfire Night

As I look out my window, I see plumes of smoke billowing in many parts of the city.

'Rioting and looting?', you may ask worriedly.

No, it is Bonfire Night or St John's Eve. The fires are lit in every city, town, village and crossroads in the country.

Many who are now laughing and joking as they feel the heat of their fire, may not know exactly why they built it. But it is in their DNA to collect pallets and pieces of timber, and just about any other flammable material for days prior to tonight, and set the communal fire alight.

It is an ancient tradition passed down from generation to generation since times immemorial.

It was hijacked by Christianity probably in the 5th or 6th century, but it continues unabated.

Midsummer was an important time for our ancients the Summer Solstice. A time of long days, growth, and lovekiss

Star-crossed lovers used to jump over the fire hand in hand.

Maidens used to fast all day, then put a white table cloth on the table to eat her meal. Her future beloved was summonsed to then turn up bodily, or sometimes in spirit.

People used to gather the ashes from the dying fires and spread them over their fields for a good harvest.

Both communal and family fires were built. Stories were told around them, music played, matches made.

There are at least 5 communal fires within a kilometre of me at the moment.

I must now go and light a little fire of my own to connect with my ancestors, on this important night.

on my way home

Okay, this blog is about something I usually do not talk about but on my way home tonight I was listening to my Bible cd. conversing It got me thinking rather quickly when it spoke about how women are suppose to serve their men.

I could go on and on and on about the many examples here. I will just choose two.

Does feminism promote anti-religious behavior?

After all, the woman was created from Adam's rib and is suppose to be second to man. (Bible says)

and

The feminist movement has increased the divorce rate.

When listening to the Bible, it sure sounds like a lot of stuff that feminism does not support.

What do you think?

Manchester, now joins the ranks of perhaps hundreds of ...

other places, all experiencing selfish, thoughtless, violent islamofascism. In spite of most of us knowing many decent Muslims, the numbers of sickos is large enough to have changed the world. It's simply much more difficult for the average schmo to look at Islam, and Muslims, with fairness and equanimity. If that was the goal of these twisted hot heads and their religious and educational leaders, fine work indeed. I've posted the possible reasons behind such deviant behaviors, which are best understood in trying to find solutions. Central are the clear messages in the holy Khoran to harm infidels, and the current debased state of Islamic culture, which at one time led much of the world. It's a sad human trait to blame others for the mess your culture finds itself in. Whenever we have the urge to see the source of our failings in others, it's prudent to stand in front of the nearest mirror. Prayers for the families and victims. Aa.

Missionary zeal.

Just returned from bringing the kids back from the succesful end of year two at university. Drop off at Mom's. Stopped at my main wifi spot (McD's) for some of your blogging enlightenment. Four squeaky clean young men, next table, LDS lads, came over to get in a few licks of proselytising. Almost all evangelicals have a tendency toward the tedious. They were suprised with my familiarity with their Book and tradition, being a spiritual searcher of sorts, and reading main writings from each. What did I think of what I read. I said that for me, the Book of Mormon had a striking similarity to the King James Bible, new testament, with names and places morphed a little, for the North American first peoples' scene. Didn't have the heart to say that Joseph Smith may have plagiarized the real New Testament, likely while on hallucinogens, between poontang sesssions with upper NY state farmers' wives.. And that it's amazing to me that so many bright people of their faith haven't seen this as well. As a younger Turk, I may have been so brutal. But I'm grateful for more equanimity, and less anger. Pope Francis visits Egypt....

He wants, againgst strong council otherwise. to travel in mostly personal unproteted fashion. Given the scene in Egypt these days, this is brave but of course has merit for many things. Ecumenical relations between both forms of Catholicism, generation of good will, pride among his flock, and so on, to list a few. But it's also a chance to see if radical Islamic hot heads can view his visit similarly, keeping his visit peacceful, and thereby show that they've really read and understood the majority of the Holy Khoran. We'll see. Aa.
