Tell a lie enough times...

Said many times and places, if you tell a lie enough times, people will believe it to be the truth. That often spawns conspiracy theories. Sometimes the facts don't align with the stories.

There will always be a mystery about the death of John F. Kennedy Jr., his wife Carolyn Bessette Kennedy and his sister-in-law Lauren Bessette. They died in a plane crash off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard in July 1999.
I've seen a handful of videos and some airplane animation of the flight path. Okay, that looks viable. A few things that tipped me off of something suspicious that wasn't right.
Senator Edward Kennedy who was the uncle to JFK Jr. identified the body. The autopsy was rushed and the body cremated and the ashes scattered at sea.
This is the best one:
While I heard it was the Identifications to the 3, I later read it was the registration papers to the airplane piloted by John F. Kennedy Jr. washed up, soggy but intact, on the very beachfront property he owned.
The plane went down and was found at a depth of 116 feet about 8 miles off the coast of Martha's Vineyard. I cannot 'fathom' how the registration magically washed up on his property.

I'm thinking, tell a lie enough times...

AI. PROGRESS & DEVELOPMENT. UNSTOPPABLE.

The progress of AI can not be prevented according to experts, and the future of
this planet is in jeopardy. As long as there are countries that suppress their population, the number of new ways to observe individuals behaviour will increase, and anyone who steps out of line with government policies would be taken care of. Also the development of armies of robots would be inevitable, and would replace humans, and could be used to invade weaker countries.
Already, closed circuit cameras are used in autocracies such as China, to watch their citizens, and what hope is there to ever reverse the future escalation of AI.

Cos...

More than 20 years ago I used to frequent a chat room with women from Philippines. They habitually used the word 'cos' and I believe it's their abbreviated version of cause or because. This morning, I saw bcos used so that leads to: is there a difference in cos and bcos?

I realize that many Asian, Malaysians and people in the Pacific region learn English as a 2nd or 3rd language and adopt phrases and abbreviations.

To me, cos is the mathematical abbreviation of cosine.

Groundhog Day...

On Thursday morning, the 2nd of February, Punxsutawney Phil will declare an early spring or six more weeks of winter depending on the visibility of his shadow.
I don't know about the rest of the country, but the weather in South Florida was in the 80's with lots of sunshine and warm winds.

Astronomers Just Discovered a 'Bear' on Mars

There's no denying, the crater looks like a bear's face. We've seen some crazy craters on Mars over the years from the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter's High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment camera (HiRISE) – like the famous smiley face, or an elephant and a bird.

But what could possibly create the weird feature in the middle of the crater that is shaped like a bear's snout?

"There's a hill with a V-shaped collapse structure (the nose), two craters (the eyes), and a circular fracture pattern (the head)," said HiRISE principal investigator Alfred McEwen. "The circular fracture pattern might be due to the settling of a deposit over a buried impact crater. Maybe the nose is a volcanic or mud vent and the deposit could be lava or mud flows? Maybe just grin and bear it."

Heat...

Friday night was cold in South Florida. A front passed through in the morning with cold rain and high winds. Temperatures dropped to the 40's (Fahrenheit) and Saturday was clear skies, cold and windy. Sunday morning was also into the 40's.
We tried to get through Friday night without heat and the room temperature was around 68, much too cold for sleeping with 4 blankets. I said, the heater goes on and Saturday night with the thermostat set at 73. It was nice.
What I did notice (different than air conditioning) is the bedrooms were warmer than the living room. It was probably a difference of 4 degrees with the thermostat in the hall in the middle of the apartment. I have the louvers on the vents half way open for the bedrooms and all the way open for the living room.
This is the same adjustment all year round, but the air conditioning in the summer months has the bedrooms comfortable and the living room gets really cold. It's cold enough to have a fan blowing the cold air back toward the hallway to stabilize the overall temperature.

I'm puzzled why there is such a difference between the efficiency between heat and cool...

Astronomy and the dark side of the moon!

Astronomy appears to be a subject that puts CS bloggers to sleep.
Lots of times I planned to blog a story or two as there is so much happening in the world of science with the Orion capsule and James Webb space telescope. Amazing photos that are unaffected by the earth's atmosphere.

Now we may get to see the Dark Side of the Moon and not have to listen to it...
