For the first time in history....

Scientific American has endorsed a presidential candidate.
That shows how important this election is.

Well, we KNOW it couldn't be a person, who not only doesn't have a clue about science, nor even math. They are far too smart for that.

But, who would Scientific American endorse as it's first candidate ever ?

Yep, Joe Biden. head banger

Man man with a pig's heart...

Earlier this year doctors at the University of Maryland performed a transplant of a genetically modified pigs heart to a 57 year old man. It was a medical first. He lived for 2 months and suddenly died. 2 months later, they found a viral DNA in the pig heart that was causing an infection.
So now there is fear that animal-to-human transplants run a risk of introducing new kinds of infections to people.
Something to consider when signing documents to receive experimental transplants.

Yellow Alert! A signal has been Detected

Project SETI, after 60 years of listening, the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) organization acknowledged that in April and May 2019 radio signals were received by the Parkes Observatory radio telescope run by CSIRO in South Wales, Australia. As usual when listening on many frequencies a vast variety of radio signals are received during any observational period. Normally several months of work are required to isolate and analyze each separate signal to determine it's origin. The current endeavor is called Project Breakthrough Listen which collects and analyses signals from many participating radio observatories around the planet. In the case of this particular signal (known as BLC-1) the analysis of the signal did not occur until October 2019.
The radio signal is a not modulated (non-informational) tone that was broadcast on a frequency of 982 Megahertz. The tone was broadcast for about a half hour. Data from other radio observatories and listening stations was then collected and the presence of the signal in their recordings also was confirmed.
Triangulation reveals the point of origin appears to be in the direction of Proximi Centauri, a nearby star 4.3 light years away Doppler radio analysis indicates the signal was blue shifting (i.e., moving). No known natural process can produce a unwavering radio signal of the nature received. .Because the same data was found on multiple radio listening points, some thousands of miles apart a local man made source near the Parkes Observatory was soon ruled out. Subsequent investigation has determined no satellite launched by Earth has ever been set up to transmit on a frequency of 892MhZ. Further, no known satellites launched from Earth are known to be in the position of the sky the signal was determined to be originating from.
Continued monitoring of the frequency has not resulted in any further signal being received.
Scientists are continuing to monitor that area of the sky and are also preparing papers speculating about what may have caused the signal and what it may mean.

Private Analysis: So while CNN, NBC, RT and FOX worry about President Trump, President Elect Biden, and Covid19 masks, over 4 years ago, someone or something pressed a car horn for a half hour. I say car horn because that is fairly similar to what was done. When a human leans on a car horn for awhile, we are usually doing so in an attempt to signal something to someone. Three questions fill my mind. Was the signal meant for us? If not, then what did the signal signify and to who (or what)? What kind of response to the signal is to be anticipated?

Tik-Tok whatever the response will be, depending on how far away that listening point manned by the sending species is, it is possible the response is already underway.

Astronomy and the dark side of the moon!

Astronomy appears to be a subject that puts CS bloggers to sleep.
Lots of times I planned to blog a story or two as there is so much happening in the world of science with the Orion capsule and James Webb space telescope. Amazing photos that are unaffected by the earth's atmosphere.

Now we may get to see the Dark Side of the Moon and not have to listen to it...

Apothis is coming to visit

in 2029. On April's Friday the 13th. An okay day for some, but probably a really bad day for a few million people. April 13, 2029. This asteroid is no bigger than the Rose Bowl, but it will make the closest approach of any known asteroid to date.

Asteroids that already hit the Earth and caused extinctions are not being counted in that last sentence.]

Apothis will pas within 18,000 miles of Earth (below many satellites). Should the calculations prove to be a little off, or an impact with something else causes a variation of only 600 miles, then Earth's gravity will catch it and just 7 years later it will hit and devastate the planet. professor

The US's NASA is aware of this of course, as are several other space agencies, however no one has allocated any budget money to do anything about it. The US Congress is much more concerned with such critical things as nominating Donald Trump to be the next Speaker of the House, the infiltration of WOKE thinking into the education system, darker skinned people crossing the boarder and of course this week's super model. So don't look to under funded NASA to save the Earth. Bruce Willis is needed to fix a leak on an oil well.

China, Japan and India in theory have the potential to launch an intercepting missile and divert the asteroid, but they haven't even mentioned it yet. Russia of course already shot it's wad at the moon and has no money or facilities for such a mission.

The real question becomes what is the safest place on Earth to watch the catastrophe with your date from?

dunno

CLIMATE CHANGE

The last ice age ended approx 25 thousand years ago. How did it end? Well, according to scientific studies, the earth tilted slightly on its axis and as a consequence, the planet began to warm up.
It did not increase in temperature due to cave dwellers driving cars or lorries, or flying aircraft or factories blowing out smoke filled with carbon dioxide or the burning of coal and use of oil fired boilers or exploitation of oil fields.
The climate changed because of nature's interference, not the activities of humans. We cannot overcome how the sun operates or the position of the planet.

If you always wanted to be a Space Cadet...

Maybe when you were younger, you wanted to be a Space Cadet. Don't despair... You still have a chance as NASA is taking applications! While the odds are slim, you have to be a U.S. citizen and you must pass the astronaut physical exam.
There is no age limit or 20/20 vision requirement and don't worry that NASA set a high bar for education.
They are looking for applicants with a master’s degree in science, technology, engineering or mathematics, followed by at least three years of related professional experience.
I'm sure (for a price) you can find someone on the dark web who can print your diploma and a tech company to vouch for your employment.

“The trip to Mars is six to nine months,” he said. “You’re going to be away from familiar for more than a year, one to three years. Are you really ready for that?”
