Science, and evidence....

We like to think we can have theories "proved" by sophisticated science. Sadly, the scientific method is rather a way to try to show theories are NOT correct, usually by way of careful repeated experiments. The more this is done, and a given theory resists getting dumped, the more we can safely believe in it, and use it for technology, etc. Sure, the ability of a given theory to predict things, how it fits with other observations, the logic and consistency of its parts, and much more are involved in our believing it. But doubt always remains, which is the mark of good scientists. For real proof, there's mathmatics, QED. Aa.

It might just get us thinking about.....

spirituality. Not being trained formally in physics (astro-, particle-, modern-, quantum-, etc.), just merely a wannabee dilletante, I still know which end of a telescope to look through. On a dark clear crisp night, new moon, here in the north east of the USA, with a small quality refractor, adjusting by hand for the earth's movement, sure, the solar system beckons. But all sorts of galaxies are easily resolved as well, right from the back deck of our home. Pass the Gluehwein. Galaxies! We are told that each such galaxy contains a billion stars. Billion! And that even though we can hardly see them all, even with the deep field studies, best guestimates are that there are at least a billion galaxies, of various types, ages and sizes. Billion! Light millennia apart from each other and us. Closest star to us is some two light years distant. Light years! (light, in vacuum, travels around 300,000 Canadian miles in a second.) Second! Our fastest methods of propulsion would take a ship hundreds of years to get there. Hundreds! Now think how big and powerful just ONE star is. Our little sun, for example, is just quite ordinary in size, etc. And we now believe that with so many stars, at least some (we'll never reach them), perhaps millions, have planets that could support life as we know it. Millions! It boggles the mind. Aa.

Contrails (chemtrails)?

Over the years I've seen the comments. I've seen the articles. It's a subject I've avoided because I don't want to get sucked into the whole topic of what has all my life seemed to be an innocuous and normal thing.

This morning it wasn't normal. It was weird!

I was driving into work this morning and holy Batman! but the contrails (or whatever you call them) were all over the sky! Like someone was up there playing tictactoe....all over the place! Okay, I live near an airport, yet only see the occasional jet fly above. The fly zone to PGH In'tl is further south of me. We see more helicopters than jets or planes.

Took me 10 mins to get to work. Was so blown away by the contrails I counted them. 53 and gave up counting as I was running late. That's dozens!

I'm a very proficient googler, but I really just don't want to go there.

Are there things going on in this world that YOU just don't want to know about???

from my past

i was having a dream about my teeth falling out.
a noise at my front door woke me up.
then voices.
footsteps in my hall & back room.
someone shouted "Hello".
"Hello?!" i shouted in a "wtf?" kinda way
i got up.
opened my living room/bedroom door to having a torch shone in my face.
it was the cops.
apparently when i came back from the store earlier i hadn't closed my front door properly.
it musta just swung open while i was asleep & i guess one of the neighbours called the cops thinking my place had been broken into. i think the cop said that they'd tried shouting in & got no reply. f*ck what a mess my place is.
great.
now these cops'll tell 2 friends...

The latest on the Mechanics of War

I was reading the latest news on the weapons of war and I am so flabbergasted on the capability when it comes to its power on destruction. But what bothers me most is why they even report it when in fact this should be as secretive as it should be?

Anyways below is a report written by Jeffrey Lin and Peter Singer on Popular Science Magazine December 2014.

A most intriguing development on the world's crazy attempt to annihilate human beings.

HGV - unmanned hypersonic glide vehicle.

Countries testing them? China and US

Capabilities? Capable of traveling faster than 10X the speed of sound- MACH 25 or 16,000 miles per hour.

When is expected to be operational? 2019

"If weaponized HGVs could fly as far as intercontinental ballistic missiles (more than 3,500 miles) but strike with greater accuracy. Since the gliders don't fly in a predictable parabolic arc like ballistic missiles do, they would be exceedingly difficult to shoot down with traditional missile defenses. And their speed would make possible a whole new pace of war. For example, upon discovering the location of a terrorist leader in Syria, and HGV fired from US army base in Western Europe could hit the target in half an hour."

I am kind of like what is this world getting into? So we can be evaporized fast in the clouds?

And most importantly, please don't be caught suspected as a terrorist?

Thank you all for your reads and comments.

It’s Just A Matter Of Time.

Time waits for nobody, or so they say. This must make time the most precious resource of all. Once squandered, it is lost forever. It cannot be regenerated or recycled like water or money. No Save and Restore, no rewind and no backspace or delete key.professor

And yet, some people use their time so effectively compared to others that it does seem to wait for some people, which brings us to the old question; is time constant or relative? Also, if it is relative, then what is it relative to?confused

Every century a day gets 1.4 milliseconds longer due to the earth’s rotation slowing down, so at some stage it will stop spinning! Will a day then last into infinity?dunno

Einstein said that gravity slows time. I never understood much of what he said but if I understand this one right, astronauts must age a few nanoseconds faster each day they spend in space. Apparently my interpretation of his relativity theory – that if you pull hard enough on your shoelaces, you can lift yourself up into the air – is not valid.rolling on the floor laughing

But to come back to Einstein and his sidekicks, some believe that the expansion of the universe is an illusion created by the slowing of time. If that is true, then eventually time must stop altogether, which will make us immortal. All that bothers me about that is how I am going to get my eggs soft boiled if there is no time to measure it against.doh

And I can imagine some doctors finding it problematic to determine a patient’s pulse rate but that cannot be much of a problem as all mammals have the same lifespan; about 15 billion heartbeats. Elephants only appear to live longer than mice because their hearts beat much slower.heart beating

In 1930, Stalin abolished the weekend to increase productivity and the Soviet Union changed to a six-day week. This went on until 1940 when they reverted to a seven-day week; effectively getting rid of more than five hundred days during those ten years. If Stalin could get rid of a day in each week, why can’t we just abolish time? I’m sure we can find alternative employment for all those watchmakers.idea

All we really have to hope for is that when time eventually comes to a standstill that it happens on a public holiday so work can be abolished with it.yay

No, I did not smoke monkey weed and yes, what is left of my hair used to be blond once upon a time, but that does not apply to men.laugh

The definition of nothing

According to perceived wisdom the entire universe came about when an object the size of a tennis ball of unimaginable intensity exploded.

Putting aside how the tennis ball object got there in the first place, I am wondering what is the difference between 'nothing' and what we currently call 'space' ?
